For the first 10 years of the 21st century everyone said two thousand and one, two thousand and two and so on but now everyone says Twenty ten, twenty eleven and so on. Why weren't people saying Twenty 0 three ten years ago ?

Probably coz the first year of the centuary was the year 2000, it would have sounded odd to call it twenty oh oh, it just went on from there....

the flow of it doesn't sound right,

there are less syllablesin "twenty o three" but the run of "two thousand and one" sounds more together.

    Two thirteen

That's what Michael Noonan always says

    Two thirteen

I notice Michael Noonan uses this format, it must be the norm in finance circles. I prefer the twenty fourteen format meself but each to their own.

An event happened in Nineteen thirteen
It's repeated again in Twenty thirteen

It's a convention that arose from the need to shoehorn dates into the lyrics of catchy cod-futuristic ditties.

Strange, I always liked Zager, but Evans left me cold.

I say two thousand and thirteen. but in a hundred years (I plan to still be alive) I will say twenty one thirteen, not two thousand one hundred and thirteen.

So long as people refer to the 2000's as the zeros and the 2010's as the tens I don't mind.

It really annoys me when I hear "the naughties" or the "the teensies".

Twenty Thirteen is a lot catchier than Two Thousand and Thirteen.

I'm probably very old fashioned, but I would say today's date is . . .

Friday, the 15th of November, Two Thousand & Thirteen.
    ================================================

I notice many radio/TV presenters now say the date like this . . .

Friday November Fifteen, Twenty Thirteen. Then there are some Irish politicians who will even say Friday, November Fifteen, Two Thirteen

The new trend in my workplace is May 1 as opposed to May 1st or the 1st of May.
    Drives me bonkers !

Yeah but sure people used to say nineteen ninety nine four years before that, not one thousand nine hundred and ninety eight. It's just whichever trip off the tongue more easily.

Twenty Thirteen is a lot catchier than Two Thousand and Thirteen.

Twenty thirteen is the correct way of saying it.If everyone here was born in Nineteen whenever and if we say that the famine began in Eighteen forty five and the previous one to that was Seventeen etc.

    Noonan with his two thirteen(213).Does he realise,that was a year,1800 years ago.
