Bit of a Friday thread, I own two so I'm not knocking Trek but let's face it they are hardly a focus of euroness. I remember them being described as akin to The Ford Mondeo of the cycling world...
Whata ya think are they nice?

Fugly. Anyone who owns one has no taste. Off the bus!!

While I know they're very good bikes, I hate them. Absolutely everyone and their dog owns and rides one around me. I was offered a madone 4.? about 6 months ago for very little money by a mate who was emigrating to australa but I turned it down as I just didn't want to be another Trek owner. Silly but what the hell...

I love Trek bikes! I have another one at the moment and think they are quite comfortable to ride. You sit slightly higher on them than some other bikes which I find better for long distance.

They are excellent bikes alright, but the question was whether or not they're nice.

I can't think of a single Trek I've lusted after.

I think there are some lovely looking bikes under this:

Briefly owned a trek 1000. Can't exactly say why but I hated it. Just seemed to be constructed and designed with no joy. Thought the geometry was appalling and the welding/joining was very shoddy.

That said, I own 2 giants, so what do I know.

There are some impressive machines. The Domane is one of the most intelligently thought through bikes I can think of recently. It didn't make my heart flutter when I first saw it though.

They're all fairly bland in fairness.

I know we're out on the edge, but we're still European so we should hold ourselves to a higher standard than this.

All the main US brands with the exception of maybe Kona are fugly.

I own a specialized and while its a great bike to ride and I love it, its a horrid looking yoke.

I don't like Trek mostly, but there are a few good looking Madones around. Someone posted a nice Discovery version in the Images of Beauty a while ago.
    Frame like this I think...

    sslx1_600.jpg

Some of the ones that Alberto was riding a while back were nice too.

    contador_madone_full_view_600.jpg

    01AlbertoContadorbike.jpg

    Leopard Trek nice also.

I've never really liked any other models, not that I can think of anyway.

But at the end of it, they are all Trek. So, no, I wouldn't. Not even with yours.

Agree with above. Trek, Giant, Specialized are all mass market, reliable and for the most part quality machines. They are not sexy though.

Honestly, I've no problem with Treks. Some of my best friends have Treks.

I have one - a Trek 1.2 first road bike I've ever owned and I like it.

I always thought the Y Frame treks, especially the carbon ones, were disgusting.

That said, I used to think the Intense M1, Sunn DH and Orange Patriot frames looked "cool" where as now I look back and want to puke.

i LOVE that frame and colour scheme on Contadors trek.
also have a soft spot for Cancellaras trek from his paris roubaix victory this year.

I've never owned one but I think the FX hybrids are very good if you are going down the sporty hybrid route. I rented a 7.3 for a week in France and my dad also owns one.

I also think their mountain bikes are pretty good.

Ahhh now, at least volvos are a little bit different and not afraid to be different.

Trek are a bit like the Toyota corolla of the car world. Bland but does the job.

I think this thread is weighted more towards road bikes but I love my Trek Mamba, 29er frames all look kind of similar but the G2 offset on the front fork is pretty neat, and other than that I like the orange and black color scheme, down the the colour coding on the hubs and seatclamp. Not to mention Gary Fisher's name is on the bike, what's not to like? Although, my one came with black handlebars, not the orange as in the picture

You stick with that European thang if you like. In the meantime, I'll have a bike that innovates rather than satisfies some misguided romance with heritage. Oh! and I'll have a job. Good luck on the edge.

What has employment got to do with it?

My remarks were tongue in cheek. Trek bikes are great in every department except looks. I don't see what's wrong with saying that.

Would I be happy owning a Madone? Depends what I paid for it. Is it a good looking bike? No.

Not as high end of an MTB as your Mamba but have to say love my Trek 4500. The clean & crisp white/black paintwork is top notch IMO.

    Hey,

The 2011 trek speed concept was a class bike and they have stepped it up again with the new 2014 speed concept 9.9 TT bike is the fastest and cleanest TT bike on the market, all the cables are internal and out of sight, full marks to trek on this one !!

    Zip,

You'll have a job? I'm certainly missing something cos I've no clue what that's about.

Live and let live on the bike front though. Don't currently have a Trek but I'd understand someone with one reacting a bit to people saying they're ****e/ ****e to look at, etc.
