Bondaweb - stupid question

Really stupid query here, I've recently started patchwork (I love it) with the sew and stitch collection that is on sale) and I'm struggling with the bondaweb side of it in that every time I iron on the bondaweb, there is no backing fabric to peel off.

I suspect I'm using too hot an iron as it's set to the max heat, should I be using a lower heat?

This is when I attach it to a first piece of fabric, when I go to peel off the backing there is nothing there, and sometimes the fabric I am using it for sticks to the ironing board.

What's the right temperature to use?

It varies by brand, but my package of bondaweb says two dots (wool/cotton) setting for approximately five seconds with no steam.

I usually keep my iron on max as well for patchwork but that's too high for most fusibles I've used.
