Changed lightbulb doesn't turn on

    Hi guys,

The main lights in my bathroom blew, so I changed them. The old ones both left the screw cap behind as they came out and it looked like there was brown rust or something on the inside of them.

I got the caps out and put in new versions of the exact same bulbs, but they don't turn on at all.

There's an extractor fan controlled by the same light switch which still works perfectly, and the light above the sink works fine too.

Any idea what the problem could be? I'd rather not have to bother dealing with the landlord over something so trivial!

    Thanks,

    Sam

You refer to lights (plural) so does that mean more than one bulb went out at the same time? If so then it sounds like an electrical fault in the housing, possibly a corroded connection or wire.

There are two light bulbs which are activated by the same light switch. They're usually covered up so I don't actually know if they both blew at the same time, though it is entirely possible that they did.

Is the housing easily replaceable? I've no experience with wiring etc but I could unscrew a damaged housing and screw a new one in if it was that straightforward.

It could be easy but if you've no experience you're better leaving it up to the landlord to sort out, electricity is not to be messed with especially in a damp environment like a bathroom.
