It has been reported for some time that Channel 5 in the UK is to launch a new repeats channel in January called 5 later which is similar to Channel 4's 4seven service.
Channel 5 is preparing to launch a free-to-air channel repeating shows from the main channel - similar to Channel 4's 4seven.

5 Later is set to launch in January across Freeview, Sky and Freesat, and will feature a selection of the most popular shows that have been recently aired. A placeholder has been launched on Freeview Channel number 55.

I think it's an excellent idea. For those of us who have it in our homes it would be great to see all the repeats that are being shown after they were previously new episodes.

Are they going to jam this on to their already overloaded TP and wreck the PQ even further?

    That's not fair.

It only happens when they're broadcasting. :)

If you told me C5 was taking away a channel rather than adding another, I'd be more excited.

One of the worst TV channels out there.

Thanks OP,,,,,,,but there is no pleasing some people.....Channel 5 is no worse than what we pay our tv licence for here, in fact RTE is more of a joke...

Got to disagree with that. I watch quite a bit of RTE and would rarely watch C5.

And I am not saying this just to start an argument.

The joke is your post. You think RTÉ is worse than Channel 5. Sigh.

I am not forcing you to watch it. Nobody else should be doing the same either.

The only programmes I've seen recently on Channel 5 are The Mentalist and a few railway programmes like the ones done about Chris Tarrant's Extreme Railways and the other series which was about the First Great Western company.

They are the ones IMO that I would class so far as decent programming.

I do think that Big Brother is utter garbage as I am not compelled to watch that either.

My opinion-after all Im paying their inflated wages for (in my opinion) mostly rubbish on RTE 1...the OP was telling us about a new channel that is FREE to us and I applaud him for it, not deride him...as I said I think RTE is a joke and very rarely watch it even though I pay them...I wouldnt miss it if it closed down tomorrow!

Well, it seems I spoke way too soon as this is certainly going to be a waste of money and bandwidth.
Channel 5 has announced plans for a new 24-hour catch-up channel.

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/a544785/channel-5-to-launch-catch-up-channel-24.html

Having only programmes from the previous day as well as Teleshopping is certainly a major disappointment for us thinking about it. And it's only on from 7pm to 1am on when viewing it on Freesat. Great Stuff

I used to watch Channel 5 more than any other but since they took on Big Brother they seem to think that that is enough and let everything else slide.

It seems to have completely replaced 5* +1 which doesn't seem to exist anymore

5/6. It's on 175 if you are using the card trick.

Channel 5* +1 is still on Freesat

What transponder then cos it's not listed at all on kingofsat, nor did it show for me after a full scan. Channel 5 +24 is using the frequency of 5* +1.

Channel 5* +1 is still on Freesat

Is it an actual Freesat receiver you have? If you have a non-Freesat box, just FTA, & don't rescan, the channel name 5* +1 will still be there in the channel list but, the actual channel you're watching is 5 +24.

    Just edit the channel name.

    Channel 5+1 on Freesat 128.

Channel 5*+1 that was on 132 replaced by 5+24.
