Radio Nova abusing jobsbridge

Radio Nova are advertising for a web editor which they're recruiting under the JobsBridge programme.

Now to my knowledge, Jobsbridge is for people to gain experience, therefore open to people with no experience, yet in the ad, they clearly state "Please submit 5-7 published writing samples (especially anything written for a music audience and/or entertainment). Please submit samples from any social media campaign(especially on Facebook and/or Twitter). "

The ad is here, for those who want to apply. Such a shame. Leaves a bitter taste.

It doesnt say the samples need to be for a commercial company. Plenty of music/ents enthusiasts and graduates will have run hobbyist websites/twitter/facebook campaigns etc.

Exactly. How are you supposed to show that you are interested/talented enough for a job with them unless you've done some projects yourself?
There are many jobbridge scams out there but this isn't one of them

I would do it for them for free on the side if it meant getting in the door of a radio station.

I seen the outrage Tesco caused one time for using jobs bridge. But in fairness to Tesco they do pay plenty of tax and create plenty of jobs.

On the other hand the Water Metering jobs bridge job was a complete joke.

238 quid a week is a lot more than many people get on their first job in radio (try 0, and legally unable to claim the dole at the time); but the rules do state that the JB scheme is for people with no experience.

Apart from the fact that it's a radio station advertising the position, I don't see what this post actually has to do with radio programmes and/or production, which the charter says this forum is for. Just seems to be having a go at the station for doing something which, it seems to me, is perfectly legitimate.

You'rr probably a little biased there Bard, as MYOP has stated "rules state that the JB scheme is for people with no experience". They're looking for experienced people, therefore abusing the system.

I don't qualify for the jobsbridge program, but I could do this no problem. Do you think they'd take me or someone with equal skills on for the same amount of money for the same duration?

If the answer is no, then they're abusing the program.

It's not as if I don't like the station, outside of Dempsey in the mornings it's pretty much the only Irish radio I listen to, but they need to be called out on this.

No, they don't. And nor do any of a number of other stations who use interns, whether paid or not, and whether on JobBridge or not. Not on this forum anyway, as it's for discussion of radio programmes and production - not the recruitment policies of the stations.

Again, try reading the forum charter.

Jobbridge is for people with no commercial industry experience that want to get some. Students will all have some degree of experience for example. Music bloggers will also have relevant experience. Are we suggesting that enthusiastic amateurs are to be ruled out at the expense of someone who has never shown any interest in the industry at all? Thats ridiculous.

This is perfect for a graduate who has been running a music website and promoting it through social media etc.

I would actually agree, if it is stated "rules state that the JB scheme is for people with no experience". They're looking for experienced people, therefore abusing the system. Is the JB scheme not open to EVERYONE and why should they discriminate against people who don't have web experience? It's a learning platform, not a way for Nova to get free web editors to hire trained staff under this scheme.

Yes, many stations use interns, but exactly how many of the have these expectations and why skip over someone who might be a genuinely hard worker with such a passion for web work just because they don't have previous experience?

Bard, we know that you will certainly be biased on this, but shame on Nova for not being fair in this process.

There is noone with 'a passion for web work' who doesnt have experience of doing web work.

Believe it or not but there are in fact plenty of people who don't have experience of web work, hence why FAS and local job centre's provide help and pc classes.

How does one know they have a passion for something that they have never tried? Anyone can teach themselves the rudiments of web development for free.

Believe it or not, but even in this day and age not everyone has access to a pc or laptop. FAS is full, hence why they are trying to give the ordinary joe bloggs a chance to learn via JB!!!

Like a lot of people within the radio industry, I am sure that a lot of oeople had a passion for it before they got their foot in the door.

You're not going to have a "passion for web work" if you've no access to a PC.
