Temp upgrade

Afternoon everyone, I have an old comp at home with some no so great parts. She has a ASRock Alive board, which is dead, pretty sure its a NF6G (would have to check when I get home). AMD 2+ running at 2.3. 2 GB of cheaper than cheap RAM a 550w PSU, 9800GT on the graphics and the biggest case that takes a mATX board I've ever seen. Now she did me great for years and lasted alot longer than she should of, the heat sync was held on by tie wraps...But her time has come and looking for a cheap upgrade

I'm looking to get a new mobo RAM and CPU, keep the case, PSU and the 9800 and get some cheap parts that'll do till I can afford something proper. I'm just looking to play some LoL, maybe some BF3 settings don't have to be max or even high, I'm happy to play at medium for the time being. But what I do want is something with a price range of around 100-200 the cheaper the better. Just a modern equivalent to what I had. Close enough to it anyway.

Any advice would be appreciated

For a little over 150 you could get a budget 1155 mATX board with a Celeron processor and 8GB DDR3 RAM, would still perform better than older AM2+ processors.

Would it be worth spending the extra bit for the performance? (your recommendation) or taking the Celeron and Asus with the 4GB of RAM as oppose to the 8?

Definitely worth going with the celeron over the A4 it's a decent bit better. If you reckon 4GB is plenty and want to get the price down a bit more then go right ahead and do that .

If you're playing BF3 online the G1610 won't cut it too great, that APU you've linked to is no better either. Either is passable for budget single player gaming though.

The advantage of going with the G1610/1155 is that down the line you can easily add in a strong processor, 2nd hand s1155 cpu's go for very reasonable money 2nd hand. If 200 is your actual budget, you can afford an Fx6300, board and 4gb ram which frankly is infinitely stronger for games, and you can up it to 8gb ram at a later date.

200 would be on the dark side of budget and wouldn't really like to pay for something I gonna use for 4 or 5 months. Thanks for the advice on the second hand selling, I'll do this when I'm putting something proper together. Even if I can't play BF3 I'll get over it, I'll be happy enough with LoL and there's a few others I play I know I could run.

The Fx6300 is a 'proper' 6 core cpu, runs any current game at ultra settings effortlessly and will do for quite some time - so if you got that now, that would be your processor sorted overall, not just temporarily, and its doable on the 200 budget for everything.
