Back Spasm / Trapped Nerve Pain - Any ideas?

    Hi all,

Firstly I am NOT asking for medical advice, just want to know if anyone knows what this is! I have recently increased the amount of exercise that I am doing, joined a gym and am there 5/6 times per week. I am relatively fit, and last week began doing a few classes in addition to gym routine 2/3 times per week. I am really enjoying it, and find it very challenging but I feel I am able for it.

I have experienced muscle tightness, especially after I have started the classes as there are muscles being exercises that prob havent seen the light of day in about 10 years! I know what this feels like, and it is find after a day or two. Usually once I have done a bit of cardio again it all stretches out no problem.

However yesterday I did my usual gym routine in the morning, and had a very busy evening so when I look back I prob didnt drink half enough water that I should have. I woke up last night at 3am with a SEVERE pain in my back, all over my back really, it was certainly not muscular as I was able to stretch etc with no problems, but the pain persisted. Years ago I had a trapped nerve and the pain was most like that kind of pain I felt like. I got up, took nurofen, and it look at least an hour to get back to sleep, it was incredibly uncomfortable to lie down. I then work up this morning, not a bother, pain was totally gone. I was in the gym this morning and did a spin class with absolutely no pain whatever, and I still feel fine.

I am just wondering if this potentially could have been caused by dehydration? I generally am very careful to drink plenty throughout the day, I find that I am a lot more thirsty anyhow, and try to ensure I am taking in at least 2ltrs of water every day. Now with the way yesterday evening went I didnt have anything to drink really after about 5.30 so I am wondering if that was it - A muscle spasm? From time to time I have gotten leg spasms at night, not recently but in the past and it was a similar kind of feeling to this.

Or maybe there is something else and I should bit the bullet and visit a physo!

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated as I dont know anything about this

    Thanks

    Contradicting statements are contradictory!

    We cannot see your back.
    We are not medical professionals.

However, I do see where you are coming from, with a mysterious disappearing reappearing pain. But it could be anything, and you could get an accurate appraisal, or a wide variety of wonderful misdiagnoses here. With that in mind I am closing this thread with a recommendation you see a physiotherapist, sports therapist, or a doctor familiar with sport (training and injuries). Back pain is not something to take lightly.
