Hi guys, my band are planning to release an album independently next summer and I am just doing research on the best way to do this. We will probably use one of the services mentioned above and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with one or more of them?
I have read about the sign up fees and commissions so
I am particularly interested to hear how the publishing aspect works, do we need to establish a label of our own? I believe tunecore charges extra for collecting publishing royalties, what about the others?
furthermore should we register with Imro or will that be taken care of by the website?
Any and all information would be greatly appreciated!

Not certain on the sites but look at what they offer closely and choose the one that suits you best. Can always change to another down the line if things change for the band and you have different needs. Only used ReverbNation and CDBaby. Both good so I would say use both if you can. Prefer RN myself but personal choice. Definately sign up with IMRO also. Not certain again but doubt any site would take care of it for you unless things have changed drastically since I signed up. Pretty sure tho you have to do it in person so dont think a site could sign you up.

If it's your own songs it shouldn't be much of a problem. You only need to have a label if you want to register with PPI to collect royalties from airplay. You will then need to contact IRMA to get your IRSC codes. One phone call will do that. To get PPI membership you need to have officially released songs. It's easy enough to do.

I have found CD baby to have excellent customer service, and my emails have always been quickly and effeciently replied to.

The key thing for you guys is to make the internal publishing agreements amongst the band.

You only run into trouble if you are recording and publishing, via a digital download provider, cover songs. For that you will need to pay for the licence in advance.

Note: IMRO only issue mechanical licences for sale of physical CDs and not digital downloads.
