Hi guys I'm hoping to be going into this course in September 2014. Just wonder who else has it down. Also if there is anyone in this course at the moment that can give me a small insight into the course . I was in DT006 but the amount of physics and maths wasn't for me. How tense is it in this course and also do yous do much hands on thanks

It's still going to be very maths based judging by the module listing. My friend did aviation technology in Bolton street, and now works for Lufthansa making the big bucks.

If you're looking for an engineering based course in DIT that isn't overboard on maths have a look at DT001, haven't heard any bad word from anyone who's graduated from it.

Oh he got a job out of it ? I'm looking to get into the airline sector
Working on aircrafts , that's the basic reason why I'm
Going for the course but I heard it hard to get a job with just a degree and no hands on experience

Well he got the job a good while ago and had internships through college, I couldnt advise you on the state of the sector now however.

No degree these days gaurentees you a job here in ireland, so its best to pick what you'll enjoy studying and worry about employment later. There'll always be something somewhere be it here or abroad.

DT011 degree covers basics of whole aviation industry, but you can't work as a mechanic. For mechanics there are different courses (much more hands in) and access is usually via companies.
DT011 program started just 2 years ago, so first graduation will take place this year.
Maths is only 1st year, 1st semester and that's it! However, you need to do calculations on the other subjects as well. 2nd semester there are thermo-fluids and mechanical engineering. Again, lots of physics-maths based calculations. Also be ready for Electricity and Electronics - this runs few semesters and goes pretty deep. Rest of the subjects are pure aviation studies - aircraft systems and structures, engines, avionics, aviation legalisation, materials and hardware, etc. You must do many assignments and self studies - there are so much information and you really need time to sew it in well. Last year there are some management related classes. If you are into aviation, that's the course to start. If you know in fact that you want to work hands in with the aircraft, be ready for future studies or consider other options as well. Again, you can't work with the aircraft based on this course!
