As the title says lads. When I left school I was advised by a teacher to sign straight on the dole as it would enable me to get involved with fas ect..

I worked in a pet shop for years whilst attending secondary school btw. I done plenty of courses like ecdl 2005 and 2007,Got my drivers license and car but it still annoys me writing down 'unemployed 3 years'. I wanted to join the garda reserve but just having to admit being unemployed for so long on the form puts me off and already makes me feel like i'v no chance..

I'm back in college now and started working with a voluntary organisation.. I'm see what it's like to be busy and it sickens me that I was idle for so long..

Can this affect me for future prospects like the gardai or army ect?...

In your other thread, you said that you were 19. You say you were unemployed for 3 years, meaning your last job was 16. Given that you are currently in college, then it would be pretty normal for people your age to have either a gap or no work at all! I can't see it affecting prospects like the Gardaí or the army - I'm sure there'll be career days for these, where you can ask them these questions yourself.
