Anyone see country file at the weekend where it was coming from south of Ireland. This guy had a set up where he put barley seed into trays and after a few days he would use it as feed.
Hydroponics it was called
Has anyone tried it and is there much to it

Didn't c it but have heard about it. Cant c it catching on...hydroponic grass fed beef.

I saw it. He said it cost somehthing like £20 to produce a tonne of barley grass. Hard to believe. I wonder if you had access to cheap electricity would it be a runner?

There were trials ran here in the north east some time ago on converting old mushroom houses over for this.

Turned out to be non viable through energy costs. Which have gone up considerably even since.

he had a stand at the ploughing championships this year,

what you are doing is taking barley and basically bringing it from 85% dm to somthing that is only probably 10% dm

you cannot create somthing new from nothing, its not as if its magically multiplying the quantity of feed,

the only benefit it has is that it looks nice!

in my opinion just feed the rolled barley and a bit of minerals and animal would perform just as good
