What sort of oil do I put in a 2005 Mazda 6. I know it's 5w/30 but I don't know if I should put fully synthetic or non synthetic.
I've checked the manual and it just says 5w/30.
    Thanks ronn

Semi-synth is just fine. You'll hardly even find a pure-mineral 5W-30 at this stage.

    Thanks Jim
    What's pure mineral mean ?
What's the difference between the two types of oil.

Pure mineral, a.k.a. "Dinosaur", is oil based on petroleum crude without any synthetic polymers. Full-synthetics are formulated and manufactured in the lab by men with very white coats and suspiciously thin spectacles and are optimised for the requirements of an engine environment. A semi-synth is a blend of the two, usually about 70-80% mineral, and is perfect for most petrol cars a few years old.

Some semi-synthetic oils are petroleum oils that have been chemically modified, rather than being synthesised from scratch. It's a cheaper way to get a decently performing oil. Very few modern cars can tolerate mineral oil and anyone who tells you they can is probably trying to con you.

Aye. The base oil in a full-synthetc, despite the name, usually comes from petroleum gas. Although I've been hearing that Mobil use reformulated ethanol.

A little off topic from the original post, but where are these gallons of oil for €10 coming from, the autofactors are all coming down with cheap oil at the moment, and the last time I was in my local factors they had Elf Semi Synthetic 10W40 for €12 a gallon. The Castrol in comparison was €40 for their 10W40 Semi Syn. It must be cheap recycled oil or something but in the 10 minutes I was in the autofactors, at least 3 mechanics came in and bought the cheap oil! I suspect to put in customers cars.......
