have car insurance with named driver on provisional licence- they just passed their driving test and have applied for licence. will be issued in next 2 weeks. Can I contact insurance company to update from provisional to full licence now or do you have to wait until they actually get the full driving licence?
Does the driver number stay the same when they go from provisional to full licence?

Your number stays the same. I was told I had to wait until my licence came and to make a photocopy of it and send it on.

was told same - when new licence comes send in a copy of it, you might be a bit of a refund too depending on your insurance company

I was able to update mine straight away, didn't have to wait for the licence to arrive. I just had to send them a photocopy of my Certificate of Competence.

Maybe it differs from company to company if the previous posters had to wait. I'm with AXA.

Let the insurance company know today. They frequently begin the reduction immediately. But will still look for confirmation.

just rang them there to let them know. they said it makes no difference on price as he is listed as my spouse and falls under the mature driver category though only had a provisional. so it didnt matter if he was on provisional of full licence, the price would be the same.
finding this hard to believe as my insurance doubled as soon as I listed him as a named driver with provisional last year

and they were no mention of sending a copy of his new licence or anything

That would sound correct, they are sort of treating it as two policies in one. Normally a named driver would have some years experience/full licence which would make the initial cost much lower.

Remember this when it's time to renew. But for the duration of this policy it's their rules.
