Audi A6 problem

I'm fairly new to driving an automatic and got a 2007 Audi A6 Mtronic a few months ago. I've noticed that when I stop in traffic, the rev counter starts to jump up and down slightly and is accompanied by a slight jolt which is transmitted throughout the car. This is only when I still have it in drive.... When I switch to neutral it stops. I feel something isn't quite right and this shouldn't be happening (i've never noticed it on any other automatic i've driven) and it doesn't seem practical to switch to neutral every time I stop (especially if just stopping for a second).

Any suggestions as to what this could be? Am I right to be concerned?

    Thanks in advance

You are in big trouble, at best it is the gear box ECU, €1600 to you, at worst new gear box.
I had to scrap my 2003 multi.
Google problems and Audi multi. Worst gear box ever made.

OP, I used to drive a vw golf with the 2.0tdi pd engine and they are known to have a rough idle.. I experienced it a lot during my two years of ownership but never had any trouble with the car..

unlikely but potentially, can it be loading from air conditioning while stationary?? Does it still happen when you turn off the air conditioning?

It could be a worn engine mounts or a gearbox mounting. Those Audi gearboxes are pure rubbish & will eventually fail ( less so on petrols due to lower torque) but I would go down on my first possible cause first .

Thanks for the suggestions folks. There doesn't seem to be any obvious trigger such as AC.... It seems very random as to when it happens. I guess it's time for a trip to the garage!

Funnily enough, I had the exact same issue on a 07 520D. Brought it to a main dealer a few times and to an independent but never got the issue diagnosed / fixed. It was an intermittent shudder / shake in idle (e.g. at traffic lights) - very annoying but I just lived with it. It would stop happening for a few weeks and then reappear. Interested to see if you can get it diagnosed.

I actually brought it into Audi today for a 'vehicle health check'. They said it might be the flywheel (€1600 to replace) but they need to run full diagnostics on it to be sure (which I didn't have time to wait for today). Strangely the problem completely disappeared for the past 10 days or so, but started again as soon as I drove out of the Audi garage! Will keep you posted as soon as I get time to bring it back in to them
