I haven't been to a doctors in years. Is there some sort of NCT for the body I can avail of?

Do doctors do this? Can I just walk in and say "There's nothing wrong with me but I want a total health check up". I just want a piece of paper that says "You are really healthy".

There is, but there is a secret type of handshake.

Walk in, and ask him does this look ok to you while holding your lad in your hands.

Be sure to pick up some porridge and glue it to your willy. It needs to be flahavans to work properly

'Medicals' are performed by doctors all the time but mostly because people need it for insurance purposes.

you can do an MOT type of thing. STDs, blood pressure, cholesterol, this kinda stuff. Note that some of the tests will required blood samples taken before your first meal of the day, urine from your first uh... emission of the day.

    EDIT: Quick googlation: http://www.bupa.co.uk/individuals/health-assessments/complete-health

That sounds more like it. An MOT for the body.

How do I ask a doctor for this?

One of the reasons I'd like this is because I'm off the fags a year now. But even if I was still smoking I'd be curious anyway.

Its like bringing a car to a mechanic they will always find something wrong with it, once they have you integrated into the health system there really is no escape

Give the doc a call. Explain what you're after, maybe mention the ones I put in there. He'll tell you what needs to be done, and if you need to fast first.

If you don't trust your GP, how about finding another one? WHo knows you might find one who's interested in helping rather than simply bleed you dry.

Is there one for cancer? Now would you go about getting fully checked to know if you did or didnt have any form of cancer?

A simple blood test can tell a lot I think. If you're male you should have bloods taken for Prostrate cancer over a certain age anyway.

I know a good witch doctor that can summon the voodoo spirits to keep you in good health for the next few years so you won't need to waste money on a doctor

They will probably take a lot of blood as I think they check your white blood cell count or something like that...

Just make an appointment with your GP.
When you go in just say that theres nothing particular bothering me, but I havent been to a doctor in years and I think it might be good if I get a routine check up.
Things like blood pressure, cholestrol, checking for cancers, urine sample, take some bloods, and other stuff. I'm sure the doctor will know how to go about it.
Might check your eye-sight, weigh you and talk about your diet. Are you constipated etc.

I have no idea to be honest, I'm just throwing out things I think would be done.

If your hand is bigger than your face, then I'm afraid you have cancer.

    Oh After Hours!!!!

OP go to your GP and just tell him you want a full checkup. I did this last year and he did kidney and liver function tests. Thyroid and cholesterol tests, plus the blood test for prostate cancer. He checked from ears to toes. Checked for gland abmornalities. The whole nine yards. And all for the standard visit fee.

I think in this month of emphasis on men's health this is something to take seriously and perhaps just for once to cut out the sneering humour. A GP visit like this every few years could actually save lives. Maybe even the life of someone on here.

It's time men started talking seriously about health issues.

"Hello there Mr. Doctor. I would like to give you some money and there's probably nothing wrong with me but I'd like you to check me over just in case. Do you do that at all? Yes I'm insured up the wazoo. Tomorrow morning's fine, thank you Mr. Doctor."

I can see this working very well for you Mr. OP.

Shame on you! Who mentioned insurance? Your GP can carry out a dozen or more checks in a visit with blood tests and examination. You obviously never heard of lives being saved by early detection of health issues.

So much for mouvember raising awareness!

    I dispair at times?

I went to my doctor for just that, OP. I asked him if there was some sort of middle-aged man's MOT I should be having. He asked if I'd had cholesterol/blood suger tests done before.

He asked if I had medical insurance, I said no, so he sent me to Vincent's. I got an apt for ECG a week later, and blood tests the week after that. Each time I was in for less than 10 mins. I had to fast for 12 hours for the blood tests which was a pain, as I'm a greedy bastard, but other than that it was easy.

    Low cholesterol, bitches!

I had one last week for the same reason that I hadn't had one in years and years.

Call them first and arrange a general check up with blood test rather than just turn up. I had to fast for 14 hours before the blood test.

Mention that you spent some time in Africa as this would alert the doctor to additional possibilities such as tropical diseases and parasites that they might not normally look for.

op it is called a medical check up the only thing I would say is you need to go in fasting for a cholesterol check so try to get a morning appointment.
