Peugeot Dispatch Engine?

Hello all

I'm a complete novice at motors, looking for some helpful advice...

Moved here in March, and bought an '04 Peugeot Dispatch (not a turbo) for 2k.

Sadly a couple of weeks back, she totally died on me on the N21. Was rescued by a local farmer in his tractor, who had a friend who was a mechanic - cut the very long story short, according to the mechnic, the timing belt had had a bit of plastic sheared into it, and it snapped. It is the worst case, it damaged the pistons (and other mechanical things that I can't remember the names of lol) and needs a new engine.

I got a second opinion, and had the car towed to a garage, which is the same opinion, though the chap said he found in the vans paperwork a receipt from Aug 2012, stating Timing Belt 89.00 euro. I'm guessing this must be a check on it, not a replacement, as would a replacement be more expensive??? He tried to phone the garage in Cork, but hasn't got a reply so far.

Anyhow. We seem to be having trouble getting hold of a replacement engine. A friend of my neighbours has a 06 Peugeout Partner for 400 euro, and he reckons the engine could be taken out and put in the dispatch - is this a bit unorthodox, might it make it difficult to sell the beascht which is what I want to do once it's sorted. Is it even worth sorting out, should I just try and sell the dispatch off as parts and drive the Partner - it's not quite big enough for my very small business restoring furniture, but I am loathe to pay a garage what could be the best part of 800 euro i expect to replace the engine.

I'd be really grateful for any opinions and advice from you mechanically minded people

Citroen Dispatch Sounds like you have the 1868 diesel engine

Belt kit for €89 sounds about right but was it actually fitted or inspected? They are an interference engine so the valves would have said hello to the pistons

If it were me I'd shove in a D-Turbo lump

Thanks for the opinion, dgt - you reckon it's worth it? I guess i'm going to have to search for one, somewhere!

It prob would work out cheaper to source out another engine and install it with a new belt. Have you rang Kilcock dismantlers? They may have a few of those engines in different vans.

The yard I go to has a non turbo 1.9 in a 306 but it's the older 1905cc unit so not much use I'm afraid

I'll give it a whirl tomorrow - see what turns up - cheers for the advice
