I've just ordered Digiwebs fibre package, upgrading from Digiweb NGB. I'm using a 3rd party modem\router at the moment. Will I be able to use this with the new package?

Hi, I upgraded from smart telecom to digiwebs package, they send you a new vdsl modem called a fritzbox, which is a good modem/router.

word of warning, this last couple of weeks the service provided by digiweb has been appauling especially at the weekends when there is no customer service.

thanks for that, I've been doing a bit of research and found that it is a Fritzbox 7360, which gets good reviews. Worrying to hear about the weekend issues, how far are you from your exchange? Are you getting disconnects? Latency? Low speed? Or all three?!?

your snr of 6 down and 5 up could be contributing to your problems 6 is quite low, whats your internal wiring like? if you have lots of unused extensions you would be best disconnecting them and rewiring the needed ones with a twisted pair in the form of cat5/6. another then to check is that there is no DSL splitters connected to your line as this will interfere with your VDSL signal and greatly reduce your connection speed

The wiring and connection is fine, it's contention plain and simple.

I ordered fibre on the 7th of July, other than a technician installing a socket they've done very little.. I'll find out Wednesday whether I can get fibre.. But it seems incredibly stupid to install a fibre socket before testing if you're eligible.

Latest news is that I'll have it by Wednesday. It's incredibly frustrating, hopefully if it's still not sorted by this week I can cancel. So far I don't have any written documents about the deal.

I fear I'll end up like my friend who spent 6 months trying to set up an account, during which the technician repeatedly went to the wrong address.

So for the most part fibre rollout seems to be abysmal.

and you wont as thats not how verbal contracts work. all of what youve said is quite normal. it took vodafone around the same amount of time to install my vdsl.

if you wanted it snappy you should of went with eircom, the line owners but even at that it can still take this long

SNR of 6 is borderline sync. Its not contention its fram corruption. Have them check your line for a fault then drop you to 50/16. That'll prevent your line locking up as it error corrects.

    Edit: f'cking necro!

6db on vdsl is fine. Before vectoring when I had magnet its what mine was. I was over 1000m from cab and synced at 50/20 with no issues or disconnects. Well after magnet bought more bandwidth around january all was good. Before then there was the same problems digiweb now have.

Ite not contention its sheer lack of bandwidth on digiwebs part. As if it was down to that users connected that cab on other providers would also have the problems

    When will Digiweb support vectoring?

    When will Digiweb support vectoring?

They already do. They have to as its part agreement with eircom

Wasnt there some issue with those ugly red modems that had issues with vectoring or something?

Their website still advertises up to 70Mb as opposed to up to 100Mb with Vectoring enabled.

Those ugly red modems where the fritzbox's and they are better then all other modems used by all providers. But yes there was a issue with the firmware from fritz not supporting vectoring. Thats sorted now tho with the new modems

Digiweb are slow at updating their website. When they first launched vdsl the price was 70 per month. When they reduced the price it took them months to update the website

If they didn't you'd be offline as then nobody could use vectoring. All modems are compliant.

Possibly Digiweb haven't updated their systems to handle the additional profiles available post-vectoring.

Been on Digiweb's 7meg DSL product for the last couple of years and looking at getting their fibre product.
I found a number of threads dating back to 2013 giving out about the quality of their Fibre product and so I'm interested to hear if it has since improved?

    thanks

Its ok, I get the advertised speeds on it, I live across the road from the cabinet and they seem to have no proper data cap at the moment so no need to be worrying about downloading torrents. They have't enabled vectoring, the next door neighbour has it with Eircom so the cabinet is set up for it. Interesting enough though I can get the same speeds for vectoring when connected to vpn, this was on a zotac box I use for Xbmc

    thanks for your input.
I was considering Eircom also but the fact that I am already with Digiweb... probably easier if I remain with them, so long as the service is up to scratch.

dont do it youll regret it. had nothing but issues with them, and yes they have a cap of 350gb on their 40euro package and 40gb on their 35 euro package

the only good thing is fact they give you a fritz router worth 200euro

go with another reseller of eircoms efiber, i use vodafone for broadband only as i have no need for a phone and pay 35 per month, they also have a fair usge of 350-400gb but ive hit 600+ on some months and never had a issue with them

I am on the 45 euro package and have used up to 1000gb on occasion, I inquired once about it after I got it installed, they said the cap hadn't been enforced yet and never heard from them again about it.

    Hey Dazdrog
What sort of speeds were you getting with digiweb?

    Hey Dazdrog
What sort of speeds were you getting with digiweb?

at the time i had it they where after upgrading me from the 30/1 metro package where i was lucky to get 10mb most days.

efiber was just out and they had me synced at 50/20, it worked fine between the hours of 2am-10am and speeds where up and down like a yoyo during the day, i think i even seen a speedtest one of the days that had 0.57mb down and 13mb up. when ever i rang they said my line was performing perfect and the service was a upto service. i left them shortly after

That sounds like a pain. My current dsl 7meg connection feels sluggish this evening so I have done a speedtest and I'm only getting 2megs down.. ( 0.40 up & 25ms ping)
In the past I would usually get around 6megs down solid.
Is it wrong to assume if I am getting poor speeds with the dsl product that it will be the same with the fibre (vdsl) product?

yeah its very wrong to assume, vdsl is last mile copper, fiber to cab. dsl can be 4,5k worth of copper or more to the exchange

on my line with adsl2+ i used to get 15 out of the 24 at a distance of near 2k

now on fiber my lines down to 600m worth of copper and i get 48/14
