MOD NOTE: I've been reliably informed that the following post contains errors, and that the poster was trying to mislead people. He didn't manage to get the name of the grand master right, and the style does not award black belts to children.

    =================================

Congrats to all at the grading today. We have 3 new Jiu Jitsu Black Belts.

Well done to all who took part, but especially the new Black Belts, which brings the club's Irish total to 52 (bottom of page):

    Our new Black Belt additions:
    Eamon Flynn (22)
    Niall Moran (14)
    Naomi Murtagh (11)

Attached - Eamon accepts his Black Belt from Grand Master Paddy Gallagher.
    :)

really demonstrates how much of a joke the martial art is. This entire system trains twice a week in the leinster area, presuming this young people are training twice a week, they are either savants or the black belt isn't worth the prices of a levis, to acquire belt belt status in this much time.

joke martial art with joke heritage with joke black belt requirements.

I don't think this is the place to denigrate the achievement. It is what it is and we all have our opinions. I winced upon reading the above post too, but that's as far as I'll go here.

    Congrats are in order regardless.

why not? is this some how turned into the irish fighter magazine where people only publish results from joke gradings and medals from uncompetitive competitions.

He means this thread is not the place, just like the congratulations thread last week wasn't the place. The forum however is fine.
If you wanted to discuss the comparative merit of belts in various arts then up should start a new thread. Ditto for competitions. Although I'm not convinced that you actually want to discuss.

That wasn't an attempt to start a discussion, that was straight up trolling as far as I am concerned.

This is the second time you have insulted people in a congratulations thread as well. Stop being so uncivil.

 What do you mean? Jiu Jitsu is one of the best martial arts in the world. Most guys in UFC do it too. Our club has more black belts than any other club in Ireland.

Jiu Jitsu isn't a style of martial arts, it is a group of styles. Most of the guys in the UFC do Brazilian jiu jitsu, which is derived from Judo, which is another style of jiujitsu, and is in turn derived from (I think) three older styles.

If you guys want to have a discussion about the different styles of of jiujitsu, and the differences in their ranking systems, I would suggest that you open a new thread for it, instead of posting here. Style vs style threads get messy, and it would be nice to keep that separate from this thread which was supposed to be about congratulating people on an achievement.

Of course - sorry to drag it off topic. I'm just confused & surprised by the reactions. I see threads on here all the time about people getting Jiu Jitsu black belts (Andy Ryan?) and everyone congratulates them on their hard work. People seem to be sneering this time for some reason. These guys trained hard for over 3 years to get their belts and put a lot of extra hours in over the mid-term for this grading.

do you even know what martial art they do? you're using a big blanket term for it. you obviously haven't got a clue, did you have those 3 people's permission to put up their personal information onto this forum?

nobody in the ufc uses this style of jiu jitsu or anything similar to it. some of the old school people might have a black belt in it going back to the wax on wax off days but nobody does that anymore.

i think it's the height of ignorance and insult to suggest getting a BJJ black belt after >10 years of full time learning, studying, coaching on top of a life times eperience of judo is somewhat equivalent to someone getting it as an 11 year old after 3 years of 2 days a week.

you'd be lucky to get a blue belt in bjj at that rate.

WTF? When did I suggest any of them did that? I never even mentioned Judo. Coaching?? I didn't mention that either. I just said that any time an Irish person gets a black belt in jits (like that Andy Ryan guy last time), it gets announced on here and people say "oh well done, you deserve it. congrats on all the hard work". And I do it for my jits club and jealous people are lashing out for some unknown reason. I don't know who andy ryan is (i just used him as an example), but when he announced his black belt everyone was licking up to him.

This is pissing me off now - why so much hate??? I have no idea what's going on here!!

I don't know who andy ryan is

Basically, Andy Ryan is a big scary man who could easily crush pretty much anyone on here. He also would have taught a fair few people who post here. Of course they're going to congratulate him.

And if they don't know someone, they offend & ridicule?

Morph, it's kind of funny how in posts you've made in the past you knew about the different styles of jiujitsu, but suddenly you forgot about them completely.

I hope you won't mind if I close this thread for a bit while we check up on some stuff.
