    Hi all,
I'm on a 8mb down/512kb up Vodafone At Home broadband service, 300gb monthly limit which I am nowhere close to hitting.

The past few days I have experienced a doubling of ping speed (50ms average to 100ms), a reduction of download speed (6.5mbps average to 3.3mbps)
and reducing of upload speed (450kb average to 300kb).

It seems to be occurring around 5pm to the early hours of the next day and then the speeds go back to normal.
It seems like it could be some form of throttling of the service, or perhaps some work is being done in the area.
Is anyone else experiencing similar in the town of Tramore, Co.Waterford?

I study/work in I.T so am confident nothing on my end is the cause, I have preformed the typical checks/tests.
I would have posted in the Vodafone forum but the reps are finished for the weekend.
    Thanks.

Sounds like contention. New bit-torrent using neighbor perhaps?

Oh god, new neighbours have just moved in across the street, so I guess it could be a possibility.

Has this speed drop happening in recent weeks, last 2. With Sky and broad band is ok till mid after noon then half's and about 7pm drops again.

Having the same issue with Eircom in the Tramore area, Have also checked with a friend nearby who is with Imagine who is having the same problem. Getting pings of around 100ms and the speed of the connection has dropped significantly (From 12Mb/s to 2-3Mb/s), this usually happens in the evening but it has been like it for the entire day today.

    V1P3R,

As I have said in my reply to others. It would appear to be with all providers.
Cannot understanding why more people are not complaining. I first noticed it 2 weeks ago with the loss of Internet Radio BBC 4 which was loosing connecting time and time again. As I one may say in Waterford one does have those problems with the BBC on normal radio.

You Tube was impossible to use in the evening.

Have you tried Eircom Tech Support and see what they have to say

Thanks for the replies guys. The problem has started again around 4pm/5pm like clockwork.

My neighbour directly next door who is also with Vodafone and on the same connection speeds is having the exact same issue.
I have posted in the Vodafone forum about it and will ring Vodafone customer support tomorrow, will let you know how it goes.

Mine around 15.30 and gets worse after 1800.

From what you say it is not one provider it's all..
So in reality an Eircom problem.
When I was with Vodafone a few years ago, have speed problems for several months and all of a sudden It came back to normal.. CS was very poor with VF

Once again the problem started about 4/PM and stopped about 12PM tonight.

Would appear this is a problem with different ISP's all over the country.
I have found that using Speedtest that when one checked Dublin,Galway and Cork ping and speeds are very different.
Again speed changed about 1530 and again 1800.
Both Sky UK and Ireland are now on my case.

Had call from Sky, they are contacting Eircom to get a report from the engineer who said here on Friday all was ok

Would suggest that anyone who has a problem with their speeds that they contact their ISP

Lemme know how your dealings with sky go, exact same problems as yourself and getting nowhere with them I normally get about 16mb speeds and at the moment its about 1.... has been going on for awhile now!

Just come in and tested my Line. Usually 3 tests Dublin, Galway and Cork. I get varied speeds from them all. Top speed is Galway with DL 5 and the other 2/3M do not know what to make of it.

It does not seem to be Bandwidth. So let them find out. My contract is out in December. I really do not want to leave SKY on the whole they have given me excellent service.
Line Attenuation 31.5 dB 15.1 dB
    Noise Margin 7.3db 14.14 dB

    The above my stats

Even worse speeds tonight, 150ms ping and 1.75mbps, down from 6.5mbps!
Didn't get the chance to call them Mon/Tues but will definitely tomorrow.

It would seem that Sky now getting complaints about their speed.

I cannot believe that the problem lies with Sky alone.

Upto 1800 0K then dropped. However my speed just now is 3.5 as against 8.65 at 1800 hours.

Also I hve tried used 3 servers Dunlin is the poorest speed by far

All good here and I'm in Tramore. UTV. Did notice it sluggish randomly late evening during the past couple of weeks but didn't check into it much as it was temporary.

Also, Imagine doesn't use the eircom network, and the WiMax service is a wireless solution so not comparable to Eircom, Sky, Voda etc.

My broadband with eircom is down for the last 6 days.
I called them 3 times and I got the usual bull****. Reset, turn on/off and your router is the wrong colour(old type) and if you want a new one your locked into a year contract.

So I called eircom to complain and told them I want the last week of broadband knocked off my bill. They said they would try to give me a free month of broadband, remains to be seen.

So the poor bb speeds on other ISP's is an infrastructure problem.. No wonder other many are gripping about speeds throughout the country.
Is now that fibre is being rolled out, that those on NGB are being left in the lurch..

Called again this evening and low and behold the fault has been registered finally 7 days later.
Now I only have to wait 4 working days to fix the fault.

Just logged on to check if I could find out any info regarding broadband in Tramore... it seems like I'm late to the conversation, but not the only one having problems.

I'm with Sky and started noticing decreased speeds in the evenings about 2-3weeks ago. Consistent drop in speeds in the evening now; typically:

    ping: 150-250ms
    D/L: 0.5-2.0Mb
    U/L: 0.3-0.5Mb

Been on to Sky repeatedly & keep getting the same BS as everyone else (the fault may be at your end, try the test socket, have you tried resetting the router etc). They sent me a new router on Fri - no change. Today they told me that there was a firmware update for my new router - reset it and give it 48hours to see if that solves the problem - I was pretty mad at this suggestion!

Anyway - kinda glad to see that others are having a problem too, not just me! Now if we could just figure out how to get it sorted!!

Yep, had it for a week, then over this weekend just passed it was perfect, now sometime this evening it has slowed again.
It is not anything on our end, it is most likely Eircom fecking everything up for the rest of the ISP's, probably they are upgrading telephone exchanges.

Very slow for me too today. Been gradually getting worse the past week.

At times today, it is reminding me of dial-up Internet.

Afaik, the Fibre BB will be in Tramore by Feb! Can't come soon enough.

Yet again the speeds are appalling for the last few days!

With UTV and have never really had any issues with them but the speeds last night and this morning are shocking!

    This morning

    Ping: 3123ms
    DL: 0.75mbps
    UL: 0.15 mBps

    Last Night
    20:30 Ping: 1999 DL: 0.58 UL: 0.22
    23:12 Ping: 2961 DL: 0..36 UL: 0.12
    23:30 Ping: 2821 DL: 1.15 UL: 0.25
    00:15 Ping 3148 DL: 0.67 UL: 0.19

And customer care takes an age to answer at 1890 prices!!

Thought I should update - I went postal on Sky... Full on asshole mode. Not proud of it, but it worked.

I initiated a complaint with Comreg (which was very simple over the phone) and then gave Sky the complaint reference code. I took zero **** from any of their reps and was quite forceful with my position on the matter. All of a sudden they started paying a bit more attention. The followed up with Eircom (via BT!) who came back straight away in writing, admitting that there was a contention issue at the exchange. The Sky rep said this was very unusual - they normally get the run around for weeks before this is admitted (despite it being completely obvious).

I pointed out that I was paying for unlimited, uncontended broadband & that despite it being Eircom's fault, Sky were in breech of contract as I was not getting this service. They said they couldn't resolve the issue as it was Eircom's responsibility.I pointed out that I didn't want to cut off my broadband over the holidays & that they could do something about my bill - so we agreed on 50% discount, backdated to the start of my contract, and running until the problem is resolved. The complaint is still open with Sky and Comreg.

I reckon Eircom will do nothing until they upgrade the exchange to handle fibre in the New Year.
