Drain Question

    Hi All,
Complete idiot when it comes to construction.

There is a drain running right outside my back door which appears to be a dead end. It's completely dry and there is a pipe beside it.

I've attached a couple of pics

If we wanted to extend will this pose big issues?

There is also a main drain cover but that's well up the middle of the garden, thought I'd mention it in case it's linked.

Thanks for any help / guidance in advance

Hi is the capped soil pipe (brown pipe) connected to the access junction (black square cover)?
Do you have a toilet at ground floor near/under stairs or is provision made for one?

Can you post a photo showing all of rear elevation of your house so we can tell if there is a soil vent pipe present or if that capped pipe is provision for it or a radon vent pipe.

These should not prevent you from extending but will need to be relocated to clear footprint for an extension in this area.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply

The capped pipe doesnt appear to be linked to the access junction

Yes, downstairs toilet is located on the other side of the house. Its a semi-d and the drains in the pics I took are on the side where the houses join.

The downstairs toilet is at the side where theres a walkway to the front of the house.

I'll post a few pictures up of the entire back and side of the house a little later so you get a better picture

    Cheers

its probably the outlet from your Radon sump - a network of pipes under the house to remove any radon gas in the event that in testing you have an excess of radon in the house
