Can anyone explain to me why a Paedophile yesterday walked away from a 51 year sentence in Waterfords courts?

    This is him.

Am I the only one that thinks theres something not right here?

"Det Gda Paul Fitzpatrick, of the Computer Crime Investigation Unit, told Judge Tom Teehan that some 141 images contained oral and penetrative sex with adults and were “on the high end of the scale”

So, what type of message is that setting? its ok to abuse kids?

Wow I never even heard of this case, thanks for exposing it. I agree with you, seems very odd that he could just walk free from this. Then again you have to wonder why so many of these people can have such images, admit to them to a judge and still walk free, seems very off the wall. Im more concerned that he is "banned from the internet for 15yrs", how are they gonna enforce that? Theres nothing to stop him walking into a store, buying a tablet and perusing the web for more banned images. I cant see how they could stop him- even flagging his credit card details wouldnt stop him seeing porn..

Something just doesnt add up at all with this,
You see youngfellas brought up in front of the courts for antisocial behaviour and drinking etc, they are made pay a fine and told to behave themselves, or caught with a spot of hash and again, a fine and told not to be in front of the judge again..

Then something like this comes along, hes given 51 years and told to head on out the door because hes not a flight risk..
Is the courts hoping that the locals will take care of it or is there something going on with the judge and himself? have they shared the same bench in mass or something? Im genuinely feeling sick after reading about it.

Terrible crimes should carry terrible punishments.

Its hard for me to say this without slandering someone else, but all I will say is you have to wonder why some people get away with child sex crimes of this magnitude, yes very odd indeed. Officially the line is hes not a flight risk. Maybe there is an unofficial line but because we dont know the full facts its not really our place to speculate...

    You're surprised?

Heard of many priests getting jail time for abuses they did?

What about jail time for those people that helped cover up such abuses?

None of these things have happened except in one or two cases, so expecting a long sentence and it not been given is not in the least bit surprising.

true enough, but what deems someone not to be a flight risk? have your passport taken from you as part of bail conditions?
You only need photo ID to get the ferry.. Ive managed to get the ferry more than once without ID.
But your right, we dont know what the unofficial line is.. speculate or not.. hes out, hes walking the streets and i have a kid, as do many people.. and im not sure ill be able to control my emotions if i see him.

If that happened, you'd be guaranteed a judge wouldn't be so lenient!

ahh yeah, the judge would throw the book at someone who took it serious.

    i just cant understand this.

I have posted in the legal forum so many times about suspended and concurrent sentences. Every time there is a reason, usually that the defence put forward a good argument for release and the judge bought it.

Justice must be seen to be done, or society will take its own.

Sure the emotion might be that of a blubbering and crying fool.. i never said i was going to lynch him.

Dosent seem to be too much conversation on the matter here, Its his kids and grandkids id feel the most for, its not got to be an easy situation at all.
