Tempted to take in a self build project in the new year and just wondering if anyone has any recommendations/reviews of carbon frames bought online? I've come across some Chinese pinerllo
frames but I'm a bit hesitant to buy one as I don't know anyone that admits to using one. All advice greatly appreciated.

Cosseting taking on a self build project next year and I'm looking for advice on Chinese carbon frames. Are they worth getting? I've seen some 'fake' pinerllo frames online and I'm just wondering are they any good? Is it worth while buying a branded carbon frame from the Far East, pinerllo, bianchi etc. or should I go down the hongfu route?

    Hi there,

I was looking for the same advise as you this time last year.....I went for the Chinarello and I couldn't be happier. I have done over 3000kms since then and it's being 100% for me.....maybe I got luck or are they all made in the same place, who knows.

Excuse the dirt, the picture is after the Giant Causeway Sportive

I didn't get it off a site, a fella in Derry got it for me, he has brought a few over now(he wouldn't tell me where from).....you can customise the colour scheme, it cost me £615. I can pm you his details if you're interested.

Afaik there are two or three reputable Chinese manufacturers essentially branching out from building branded frames under license.

Hong Fu is one...The consensus seems to be that these frames are 100% it's the guys making counterfeit branded frames you need to look out for.

I'd trust a frame form Hong Fu and Deng Fu, I wouldn't trust the knock-off branded ones though.

Even still, I wouldn't buy them myself becuase the effort involved with following up and warenty issues wouldn't be worth it.

I'd rather spend a comparable or lesser amount of money and buy from someone like Ribble or Planet-X who I know will be available to sort out any issues I might have.

This the site where myself and others got our frame sets, have mine a year now, went thru a hard winter training programme and was raced every weekend during the season,I have been knocked down side on by a jeep and the only damage done was rear mech,I have crashed a few times at very fast speeds and nothing has dameged the frame,Ive done more damage to my knee, hip and elbow than anything else, frames are bomb proof imo,one the lads on here got one too and he said that his one was just as stiffer and faster than his legit Cervelo and that upset him abit as he is a Cervelo lover :-)

Most major suppliers have their frames made in the far east anyway, the chongs are the only ones that can mass produce and at a cheaper rate too.

@Rita,I reckon yea got stung paying that much for that frameset.

Can I remind everyone that discussion of how to purchase counterfeit goods is against Boards rules.

    Thanks

I wish they did some decent non-wing compact bars. Don't like the shapes they do.

I know 2 people who got the 'standard round' carbon bars from them in the group buy and they are very happy with them.
