Facebook - how to hide timeline from public?

hi can anyone tell me how to hide my timeline from public? i just realised that it is no longer hidden..

sometimes i hate facebook - the settings are always changing

thanks but that does not prevent the public from being able to see my all my previous cover pic's… that is what is on my time line..

I am not sure you can alter the 'audience' for your cover pictures, only every other photo you upload yourself.
I remember trying to alter that once, but to no avail either.

How do I block certain friends from seeing my comments/posts on other peoples Facebook statuses.

For example if I comment on Joe Blogs status other friends can see it.

How do I stop that?
