Soundbar Vs Speakers ?

    Guys,

Just looking for opinions on Soundbar Vs. Speakers.

Currently have a samsung amp with sony satellite speakers & a sub.

The speakers are reasonable quality & the sub gives a great rumble when needed, however the configuration of the room is not great & there's some offset with the speakers (typical TV shoved in the corner).

I was contemplating getting a sound bar to replace the speakers but I'm not sure I'd get the same effect.

My setup is an apple TV & a mac mini (plex) hooked up through optical to the amp. There's also a DVD player although it hasn't been used in years.
    1. Would I be right in thinking I'd no longer need the amp ?
    2. Is the surround effect a reasonable replication of physical speakers ?
    3. Is the Sub as punchy as a dedicated speaker setup ?
    4. Would I be able to just hook up the two devices direct to the sound bar & eliminate a whole load of wiring etc ?
