Have 3 cameras in the cattle sheds they are connected to the internet and working grand but have two problems with them.

    1. They are fixed in a position that see s a bit of everything but nothing really perfectly clear (say feet out with a cow calving) was wondering would a PTZ cameras work better and if so are they expensive or would it be hard to install them when all the connections i think that are needed are there.

    2. Cob webs, is there any way of stopping spiders from putting webs on the cameras and fcuking up the screen view "the cameras are high so not that easily cleaned":

Check out Airvision cams from Ubiquiti. I highly recommend them. Not as pricey as you would think either

Surprisingly a horse chestnut on top of the camera works wonders. Dont ask my why, I seen a friend do it before and thought he was a few fries short of a happy meal but it worked.

Not 100% but have a feeling a ptz that would be of any use in that situation is possibly heading for €3-400 by itself.... I'm sure there's cheaper out there but you may not be able to see much more than what you can now with a cheap one :(

Would be a very cheap solution if it works :D

are your cameras wired back to a control box (dvr)?
it depends on your system, an IP ptz camera with good zoom is very expensive but very good, the same camera with a coax connection back to a dvr control box would be cheaper, in other IP cameras are more expensive, sounds to me like your cameras arent IP but your dvr has a connection to internet

I work in the security game installing and if you don't want to spend to much on the cameras, PTZ will set you back a lot of money. I would go for a couple of IR cameras in and around 700 TVL, if focused right you will get good quality and see exactly what's going in. There is also a spray you can get to keep bugs away , the IR attracts them naturally, talk to your local security guy and tell them what you want they will help you.

The cameras i put in are around 2.5 years old was done on the anolog system i think "aerial at sheds one at dwelling house " 3 way switching unit and bingo all was grand till i moved into my own gaf a year ago hills and trees in the way had to go the broad band route which was not cheap either as sat broadband is the only one ya can get where i am so i dont think the cameras are ip ones, checked e bay to give me an idea of ptz prices but they are from E100--1000 roughly so i reckon you would want to know what your buying, but where one camera is if i had a good rotating camera there would pick up 80-90% of all the sheds the range would be no more than 25m back to 0 meters, what would something that would work there roughly cost could you tell me? o and almost forgot do they do sound...

have a 4 camera system in had lots of problems with spiders until I took of the sun guards off then it stopped.
As for improving quality of the pictures can you not lower your cameras so they are nearer your subject ??.
This is a screen capture of my set up I also have recorder which keeps video of what's happening for a month also emails me if any disturbance.
    System cost E1200
Hope some of this helps Attie.

Yes and no is the answer to your question ATTIE, the sheds are full of pens/cubicles and if i concentrate on one spot the animal/s will surely be in another spot so that kinda rules that out, but they are great pics ya have up very clear mine would no be as good, as for the sun shade i slid one way back this morning and cleaned of the front of it so it il be interesting to see how it fairs out

I was hoping to have a look at the cameras at the ploughing but didn't see too many around TBH.

Saw one at connaught gold I can't remember the name now it was a dome camera €900 I think, the salesman said that it had a heater in it to prevent it getting fogged up ?

Is TVL the only spec you need to consider when evaluating 2 different cameras or is there other things ?

Your right when you say it's difficult to see reg/faces I put this system in myself with no knowledge other than thinking safety of camera's.
I do intend to improve location of camera's to improve the video quality but on long finger.
    Attie.
PS. Can read reg/face but need to get closer to subject hence the post to Loveta, lots of info on Utube need to do a bit of digging.

We have a saying "to put it on the long finger" meaning to put it off to another day/week.

anyone got this camera aidank mentions ... "internet caalving camera"...
completely wire free usin a dongle in the shed ... reliability would be a worry ?

The problem with the dongles is coverage. I've one for my apartment in college and the coverage is cat! Ye'd move it the slightest amount and ye'll go from full 3G to barely anything at all!
