New HDD needed

Hey guys, so my current Seagate Barracuda 500GB is failing on me after about 3 years of use, it needs a defrag & optimize every week or so because it gets very sluggish, already recently formatted it but to no avail. Was thinking of getting a 1TB HDD just for games and such and the failing 500GB can be for random music, videos pictures and the likes that I'm not too bothered about if it fails and they are lost. It won't be for my OS (already have and Intel SSD) so just for games. Any recommendations on what one to get? I've been looking at a WD Caviar Black. Cheers & thanks!

I find its better to get 2 cheap hard drives instead of 1 expensive hard drive and put them in a basic raid mirror configuration. Hard drives fail regardless of price and its better to have your files than not to have them.

I don't game but I code and in my case i use a SSD for the OS and have 4x500gb drives in a Raid 5 config for data protection mainly. The SSD as the primary OS (C) drive acts as a half decent cache.

WD blue all the way. The 1tb black line has not been updated in a while. The blues are actually faster. Getting 180mb/s peak read speeds on the blue which is about as good as you can get on a hdd.

If I knew how to do it , I would, I think I'll take the easy way and just get a single one. Cheers anyway!

Hi lads, ended up not ordering that time but picked it up a week ago for a Christmas present for myself :D Anyone recommend a good cloning software? I got the Caviar Blue 1 TB in the end and it seems WD have a cloning software available on their website. Can anyone tell me their experience with this? Just looking for a free one. Cheers in advance for replies!

WD's cloning tool is great. Easy to use and free.

Alright I'm all set then, thanks lads. Won't need to download 300GB+ of games again.
