Great episode. Looking forward to next week to see how Tyrese and Daryl take the news of what Carol did and where she is now. Not sure how I feel about the Govenor coming back. I hope Michonne gets to kill him.

Yeah, the mention of those guns outside reminded me: isn't storing weapons and ammunition outside a really stupid idea? Wouldn't they all just corrode and rust in the humid Georgian air and from all the likely rainfall? It just seemed to me like a really lazy plot contrivance; oh no, we need to shoot these walkers - hey let's use this convenient box of guns!

The box of guns was on wheels IIRC
Why is it a plot contrivance ?
Who said the guns where stored there permanently?

of course they where not, they where not even covered
They must have moved them there recently by Maggie or Rick as staffing levels fell at prison in last day for exactly what happened , just because something is not explained or showed does not make it a is not a plot contrivance

It would be stupid if it was explained they stored their guns and ammo out in the outside all the time but that's not the case

It's a plot contrivance because having been put into an immediate and serious amount of danger, Rick & Carl's solution is conveniently to hand. Like, they barely had to abandon their position and could saunter over to the convenient Bin O' Guns. That's just lazy scripting. The scenes in the prison were incredibly tense and dramatic precisely because things appeared to spiral out of control through chaos and bad timing, with characters reacting to the ever-escalating crisis - I think we all fretted that Glenn/Hershel/Maggie mightn't make it. The events outside felt orchestrated and an excuse for some Rick/Carl development with absolutely zero sense of danger.

It's not a question that something isn't explained, it's just a little jarring that an answer to a dramatic problem is dropped straight into the story without any organic context or pretext. That's contrived. Yes, 100% of fiction is contrived, but to me it felt like a case of the writers going "oh crap, we've got the Walkers breaking in and only Rick / Carl around to stop things. Uhm... uhhh.. ok, there's a ammo store just nearby. Perfect."

And if something like that requires excessive explanation similar to your own (and why exactly would you store guns outside even temporarily, especially when the prison's already vulnerable to attack from the inside) then the scriptwriters failed :) Don't get me wrong, I generally loved the episode for what happened inside the prison, the Box O' Guns was just a bit daft.

Its not a box its a wheeled container
It is where it should be , A prepostioned emergency weapons store on the wire.
as its has been pre-placed there due to low staffing FOR JUST SUCH an eventually a walker breakin of the wire.
it does not have be explained that there are rifles predispositioned on the wire that's where some of their weapons should be,
It basic security , They where numerous weapons in the sick block as seen
Its not a "contrivance","scriptwriters failing" , or "daft"

Jeez. Box, bin, wheeled container, receptacle, gun hole - whatever. It's kinda missing the point I was trying to make. You think it's all part of the grand, unspoken prison strategy, fine. Unless it featured at some point in an earlier episode, I disagree and think it's a case of Checkov's Gun without the gun actually appearing before being fired.

We'll agree to disagree because like I said, I otherwise enjoyed the episode.

That was a better episode than last week but considering how slow and sluggish the first few episodes were thats not saying much..

My main worry about next week is how long they will drag out the meeting between the Governor and the Prison (deja vu here, so much of Season 3 ALREADY covered this "two camps at war" theme)- I would bet money that the next ep will be all about what our friendly Governor has been up to between heading off with his 2 sidekicks and up to now. This really feels like a rehashed enemy drafted in to lengthen a script and I would be surprised to see any of our normal crew next week. How much of a threat is the Governor now? I mean, shouldnt he have better things to do than looking to settle a few very old scores??

Elsewhere, the prison scenes were done well and had a few tense moments. Hershel was on top form this episode as he finally crossed into the dark side and gave up a piece of his soul. I knew Glenn wasnt going to die, I think thats the theme this season, the element if suspense is just gone. You know Rick isnt gonna die coz hes the show, they need to drag Tyreese and Sasha out another while so they are safe and Maggie and Glen are central characters. Last season you never knew who would die and it kept the show fresh, this season is turning into a soap opera set in a singular location with boring enemies and no end point in mind...its in trouble for sure. This is a crucial season.

After Rick & Carl got rid of the z's coming through the fence I wonder will they actually use the bus as mentioned or will it be conveniently be forgotten?

When Carl asked "Will that hold them" I presumed that Rick's silence suggested the answer was "no" and that's why they decided to just shoot the **** out of them instead.

    Great episode.

Could kinda feel that something was going to happen in the last scene - Herschel or Rick suddenly getting bitten and having to lop off a limb or something. None of the main characters died so there was a lack of bad things happening to set up later episodes.

Bit silly the gov just standing in the road. What if they had sentries up? And just ****ing shot him in the face? Could mean he's been watching them.

    Good episode.

All well done apart from the fence scene.

The walkers were ferocious when they broke down the fence and chased Rick and Carl back behind the safety door, but of course they go back to crawling pace once Rick and Carl obtain M16s.

I took the rats left by the fences in an earlier ep to be the governor leaving them there to weaken the fence and be a general b*lix!

He's more of a cheeky rascal than a nemesis!

I don't see how they can plausibly make him as much of a threat as last season.
He's lost his numbers, he's lost his safe-zone, he's lost his mind.

The only viable option is to make him "So crazy, he's capable of anything"
But even then, surely it's come to the point he threatens their safety, Rick will just shoot him?

Carol returning as Sarah Connor in the last episode of the season with Sophia's t-shirt as a bandana would be a fitting finale

Nice little nod to the comics at the very start when it showed Ricks bandaged hand on the steering wheel hiding his fingers. Looked just like his
    stump
    in the comics

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that! I tried to tell my girlfriend the significance of the whole thing when I realised it and got all excited, but she wasn't having any of it! :pac:

HAHA I did the exact same thing.

I'm glad most of the woodbury crowd (if not all) were killed off and they have medicine now, can get over this illness phase. Will be interesting how the Governor plans to interact with them, keep sabotaging their defenses until the gang are forced to leave the prison? I think they will abandon the prison at the mid season finale.

Oh bollocks, is there going to be a stupid mid-season hiatus? I hate those...

Probably another 2-3 month hiatus between Ep 8 and 9 again I'd imagine. Annoying, but there you go. Makes the end of season to start of season one shorter is the one bright side.

I'm hoping Maggie absorbs Andrea's character from the comics, much like Herschel channeling Dale. It's a shame they'd already overtly established TV Andrea as a sharpshooter, as she never really got to utilise it PEW PEW PEW style. A waste.

Wikipedia has the usual hiatus scheduled, but as usual we'll have the end of the season running into the start of the new season of game of thrones.

I've read the comics so doesn't matter to me personally, but I'd guess a lot of people would prefer if the comic talk was kept to a minimum, just in case.

No they were left by that dopey girl who keeps petting the zombies and giving them names.

Im half wondering if this is trying to make up for the god awful ending of the last season, by going more in line with the comic ending.
With carol coming taking up Andrea's role A PEW PEW PEW, then back to the road for the grimes family.
