Ok rather then just clutter up the Ireland thread can people use this thread until someone creates a match thread

If anyone is doing a match thread can they state so here in case a few people start one

Usual rules apply here so don't say you haven't been warned.

Team will be edited into this post when it becomes available

Here's an interview I did with the Samoa strength and conditioning coach Michael Deasy, who hails from Kilbrittain, Co. Cork

I predict there's gonna be about 6 players I'll be really unhappy to see in the starting line up.

For the last 3 years, I have disagreed with every Irish squad in some way while also being surprised at all of Joe Schmidt's selections for Leinster. Today could be the perfect storm, surprising disagreement. :D

I'd expect a very conservative selection from Schmidt, first time out - very few, if any , surprises - in fact its a horrible fixture to start out with - Ireland are on a hiding to nothing - everyone (as usual) expects Ireland to win , but Samoa are more than a match for Ireland - any victory will be a good one in my book - best of luck Joe & the team.

10 mins. Actually getting excited now. Not even sure why because selection has rarely been that much of an issue previously and if anything Joe may need/want to play it conservative in a few positions.....

RK, TB, BOD, GD, FMF, PJ, CM, JH, CH, POM, DT, MMC, MR, RB, JMG

SC, CH, DF, POC, SOB, ER, IM, DK

Henry & POM in, POC is captain! I'm happy with that.

    POC captain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

    1. McGrath
    2. Best
    3. Ross
    4. McCarthy
    5. Toner
    6. POM
    7. Henry
    8. Heaslip CAPTAIN

    9. Murray
    10. Jackson
    11. McFadden
    12. D'Arcy
    13. BOD
    14. Bowe
    15. R Kearney

    16. Cronin
    17. Healy
    18. Fitzpatrick
    19. POC
    20. SOB
    21. Reddan
    22. Madigan
    23. D Kearney

POC is captain for the series.

McGrath a surprise starter. Healy seems to be in the same boat as POC and SOB then. Huge impact on the bench in the forwards particularly. Given who we are missing that's a good starting XV and a potentially awesome bench.

Sensible stuff. POC captain, Heaslip captain for this weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,836 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

D'arcy starting is baffling. Other then that I'm happy

Jesus Joe taking his time during that announcement!

POC captain, mods you can decrease the meltdown alert from level 5 to level 4!

  • Cronin
    Healy
    POC
    SOB

    on the bench

    Just the 3 Lions

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,668 ✭✭✭Mahatma Geansai

Schmidt has stuck largely to what/who he knows, but that team should be able to put in a very strong 80.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

Bar no Luke Marshall, I'm pretty happy. Hopefully we see him against one of Australia and NZ.

If Kidney was still over the Irish team I think you would have seen POC, Healy and SOB start. Schmidt rotating

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,973 ✭✭✭19543261

    McGrath speaks well :D:D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,658 ✭✭✭Kanrith

D'arcy might have been picked for the partnership with him and BOD which I can understand.

  • I like Ferg, but I'm just not sure...

Hmm, original rumours were Healy + Fitzpatrick, Ross starts but so does Jack McGrath. I think I prefer this in the sense that Fitzpatrick is not young and is injury ridden anyway, McGrath is more looking towards the future. Not sure if he's ready for this test but I can't believe they would send him out there if they didn't trust him
