Boiler Thermostat

I am finding that my house isn't all that warm with the heating on and the Thermostats are at the highest - I notice that in my boiler outside there is also a thermostat and I was wondering is it possible that this is set too low?

I am assuming its an oil boiler. Set the boiler stat at about 75C. Again assuming its radiators, are they uncomfortably hot to leave your hand on top. Are they hot all over, especially on top and bottom centre?

Sorry yes it is an oil boiler - no the rads are not uncomfortable to touch as they are not that warm, I have checked to make sure they don't need to be
"bled". Will check and see what oil boiler stats are set at.

I have just read this on line - on checking my boiler it was set at -15. The dial went from. I'm wondering should I change it or am I risking damaging my boiler.

    "Boiler thermostat

Your boiler will usually have a dial on it, marked in numbers or from Min to Max. This sets the temperature of the water that will be pumped from the boiler through the radiators to heat your home. The higher this is set, the quicker and more effectively the system will heat your home. In fact, if this is not set high enough, when it is very cold outside your home may not reach your desired temperature.

If you have a room thermostat and a boiler interlock, you can set the boiler thermostat quite high, letting the room controls do their job. But set it lower if there is anyone vulnerable in the household who might hurt themselves by coming into contact with very hot radiators or pipes.

Your boiler control thermostat should always be set to a higher temperature than the cylinder thermostat. In most boilers, a single boiler thermostat controls the temperature of water sent to both the cylinder and radiators, although in some they are separate."

The -15 device is a frost stat set far too low, presumable an outside boiler. You do sound like you need to up the boiler stat.

Do you have a few pictures of your boiler ?

No sorry I have no pictures - yes it is an outside boiler. Is it OK to just move the setting myself to maybe 10 or is that to high?

I think I might pop in to see my neighbour's boiler this evening as her house is always much warmer than mine !

Set the frost thermostat to 4C.
Set the boiler thermostat to 70C. This will be a square (usually grey) box at a high level in the boiler. There will be a cable leading from it to the burner.
