How to safely sell a car?

We are downgrading to one car so I have to sell mine :(
If anyone has sols their own car I would appreciate some advice. I know I can put ads on carzone etc but how do I do the following:
    1. Set a price? The prices are wildly different online. I know dealers charge more but some are asking for up to 5,500, which is what I paid for the car in 2010! (Must have got a great deal ;)) Obviously I want as much as possible and expect people to haggle, so what type of haggling bands am I looking at (i.e. expect to knock 500 off?)
    2. How do I screen genuine people? Is it best just to have an email address?
3: Get paid - I would presume I would get at least 3k (cheapest on carzone is 3200 with more miles) Is a cheque a no-no?
4: Is Caveat emptor expected?? I am willing to say selling as seen. I have no knowledge of defects bar a broken cigarette lighter and a chip out of a (new) tyre. Do people usually want a mechanic to see it? - that is fine with me, but do you get them to bring the mechanic to you?
5: Do people test drive?? They need to be insured in their own right, plus it's kind of dangerous?

    1. Post the make model year engine size mileage spec here and someone will give you an idea of what it's worth.
    2. Go with your gut feeling. But the genuine people are normally the ones who ring and ask relevant questions and don't start of by offering 2k under asking price.
3.generally cash or bank draft if your worried you could tell the seller you want to get draft checked in bank first when checks out then you give him her keys etc. a cheque is abit dodgy as they can obviously be fake or bounce.
    4. Private sale seller has no come back unless they can prove that you knew there was something seriously wrong with car at time of sale this is extremely hard to do.
    5. Most people won't buy a car without getting a test drive. You can check their licence go with them and obviously ensure that your covered insurance wise.

Thank you. It's a ford fiesta 2005, 1.25 zetec engine, in good nick bar what I have said about the lighter and tyre. I bought it in 2010 with 18k miles in practically new condition for 5500, but obviously I have worn it out a bit and broke the cigarette thing. I genuinely think it is in great nick and my last service they told me it was a smashing car, so I think a first timer getting a car at xmas would love it. That said, the timing belt will need to be done soon, and the tyres are new but I must have chipped one so they may want to replace that.
