    Hi,

Has anyone on here done the MoRun in recent years? Decent event, good turn-out? Thinking of doing it.

    Thanks

I thought this was an exciting headline!

Instead it's an independent company, masquerading under the 'Movember' banner. At least they're being transparent about it on their website:
Our company The Fix Events has created Mo Running (which is independent to Movember) in support of them and their fundraising for Men’s Health. Entry fees typically cover all expenses of putting on an event and it is very rare that these go directly to charities as costs are involved in putting on any event. With direct charity events sponsorship may cover all costs meaning entry fees can then go directly to them. However as an independant company puttting on Mo Running with full risk and responsibility and with currently no sponsorship we have cut our management fee to commit funds directly to this great cause. If in the future we get funding for Mo Running we can then dedicate more of the entry fee directly to Movember.

    Hmmm... i see.

Just wondering if there is a decent crowd as looking to do a 10km in the next week/2 weeks as couldnt get into the Run in the Dark.

If this is a decent run and crowd then i will probably do it, just wondering if anyone had previous experience of it

    Thanks

They had 438 for the 5k last year and a further 969 for the 10k. Standards don't look great.

It's fecking disgusting to see for-profit races piggybacking cancer charities...

Here's a race in aid of Movember (every cent paid of "entry fee" will go to Prostate research via Irish Cancer Society), on November 24th in South Wicklow. It's a 5km route, but you can do it twice for your 10km. Plus you could win an entry to a proper PB-course 10km in a few months time.

Details below (no mods have been informed of this blatant shilling) :)

    *************************************
To raise a bit of money and for awareness of Prostate Cancer, some of us localers will host a hill race around Mangan's Loop. It's a 5km route, with a lovely grassy surface for most of it, and fantastic views throughout. It'll be pretty informal, no goodybags, medals, or DJ's at the finish;), but it will be marked, hand timed, and you'll get a decent race. For insurance reasons, you run at your own risk, and there's no entry fee. Donations will be taken, but they aren't mandatory, the main thing is to have a nice testing run.

    When?
Sunday 24th November, meet carpark 11am, race jog 2km to start, race starts 12 noon.

    Where?
Meet in the carpark by Tinahely Gaa club, race starts from a trailhead after a 2km jog up Mangan's Lane.

    Route?
5km, good runnable surface throughout, marked throughout, suitable for all abilities.

    Cost?
Free if you like, although as mentioned above, suggested donation €5 (every € goes to Cancer charities).

Sambo's after. Start growing that tasche! :)

Good of you to come on Board, Julien. What percentage of a Dublin participant's race fee goes towards the Movember charity?

I ran this a couple of years back and enjoyed it - great atmopshere with fake facial hair everywhere to be seen. Now that I think back, there was also quite a large support turnout along the route. With regards to the standard, it wouldn't make any difference to me because I wouldn't be pushing for any impressive times ( yet!!) but its probably not something that you'll catch our elite at alright
I had heard the questions around how much of the entrance fee goes to the charity etc - it does seem a bit sly of them to be marketing themsleves as a "charity" run while in reality being a seperate entity to the Movember charity. On the other hand, it does provide a great platform for participants to fundraise....I know quite a few guys and gals that have taken part and raised a lot of money on the back of them taking part ( and this money would have gone directly to the Movember charity)

I enjoyed the run, I may give it a stab again this year. I do think that a lot of people take part on the (misguided) understanding that their entrance fee goes to the charity which doesn't sit well with me though ( and others clearly).

The Mo Run really is a fun run. Don't expect anything else from it.

I was second in the 10k last year and wasn't acknowledged. There was only prizes for first place (and I think it was just a very small cup).

Most people in the 5k get in to the spirit of it all and have great fun but it means anybody running a fast 10k spends the last 4kms of the run trying to run around groups of people dressed as Mario and Luigis, smurfs or whatever random outfits appear on the day.

It's fairly well organised, there's a good atmosphere but it literally is one for the fun runners. Don't run this competitively, just do it for fun if you're going to do it.
