Ford Focus Rough Idle + Stalling

    Hi!

I've been having some issues with my 99 1.4 Zetec Ford Focus. Car has developed a rough idle but it runs fine once its actually going. Rough idle develops when engine is warm. After some research I thought I could repair by cleaning the MAF sensor, IAC valve, Throttle body. (Seem to be the usual solutions) This didnt work so I looked for vacuum leaks/collapsed pipes and I found one.

The PCV hose was slit and was collapsing so I thought I had found my problem. I replaced it with a new hose from Ford and the rough idle seemed less erratic. The morning after I replaced it on the drive to work, I stopped at a junction and as soon as I put my foot on the clutch the engine died. The car struggled to restart.

I decided to take a look at the actual PCV valve itself so I removed it from the car and it was covered in oil. I cleaned it with carb spray and put it back in but the problem remained.

After further investigation I found a reasonable amount of oil in the air filter and a fair amount of oil that had leaked at the connection of the engine breather pipe to the air filter. I was under the impression that a blockage in the PCV was causing this oil to be blown in to my air filter via the breather pipe so I replaced the valve and the car hasn't stalled since but the idling issue remains. I havent driven the car enough since to know whether not stalling is a fluke or not.

I'm at a bit of a dead end at the moment so that's why I am here! Any help would be hugely appreciated!

SIDE NOTE: The car has a squeaky pulley in the idle rev range, it can also be heard at low revs initially while accelerating but it fades out as the engine build revs. Could this be related? Possible problem with pulley bearings?
