Trying to get something different then the usual pyjamas for my dear old granny. She's 83 and loves reading but her sight has really deteriorated in the past few years so books/ kindles are out of the question. Suggestions would be much appreciated!

My granny is also 83 and loves to read so she does end up with a lot of books at Christmas.

IF she can still read, how about a reading light to help out reading in bed? You can get ones that attach to the book and shine directly onto the page. Or a magnifying glass she can use for smaller prints?

Otherwise maybe a nice, good quality scarf, a brooch, a voucher to go out to lunch or dinner somewhere that she might not normally go, a subscription to a favourite magazine (sorry, I know that's another reading one, just going by my own gran and things we have gotten for her).

    What about audio books.

My Gran loves a good cardigan! Not a flimsy one, but a decent M&S one or something.

She also likes long dangly necklaces that she can throw over her head, without messing around with fiddly catches.

Last Christmas I got my nana a Grace Kelly brooch for 25 euro in Newbridge Silver. She's 82 now & she loved it. It actually caught my eye in the window as I was passing & I snapped it up on a spur of the moment. Whether the price has differed in the space of a year, I don't know but might be an idea for you to check out if your passing one of the stores.

Ticket for a concert or show and go with her. At that age your time is the best pressie.
