Hi guys. Thought this might have a good chance of getting some solid info here..

I'm a 25 year old meath man living in dublin on the dole.
I've been on the dole more or less since i left college in 2010, doing other courses in between and generally trying to keep myself busy while looking for work.
The thing is, i started an unpaid internship 7 months ago in a start up company, they cant afford to pay me until the gain investment, and have said they will take me on when that happens. the social welfare have sent me a letter saying they want me to start a gateway scheme and require a response, what do i do? reply and lie and tell them I've been applying to several internships and i'm awaiting reply? or tell them i've been on one 7 months already and cant accept the gateway program.
I'm a bit stuck as i cant afford to move back to my parents house in meath as they would lose out on alot of benefits as they are elderly. Basically moving back to meath is not an option.

When will they get investment is the big question? Is it from Enterprise Ireland or other sources?

Being honest, it sounds like the company is getting you for free and seem happy to keep it that way by dangling the opportunity of employment above your head.

I'm unfamiliar with the gateway scheme but is there any chance the company you're interning for now could simply get in touch when they do get investment and hire you while you're go on the gateway scheme?

You need to tell them the truth. You should have told the dept about your unpaid internship before it started.
