    WWE Smackdown TV taping report
    November 5, 2013
    Charlotte, N.C.
    Report Jim H., PWTorch correspondent

Michael Cole came out first to actual cheers. Then, JBL came out with a spring in his step to a louder ovation. And then Lilian Garcia.

    Smackdown SPOILERS 11/8

    - The show opened with a video package on the Wyatts and their actions against Daniel Bryan and C.M. Punk. Then, Punk came out for a promo. He called out the Wyatts. He doesn't know why they attacked him and he doesn't care, he came for a fight tonight on Smackdown. He won't leave the ring until the Wyatts show up. But, Curtis Axel shows up instead. He has unfinished business with Punk because of what Punk did to Heyman his mentor, so they are going to have a match right now. And so they did.

    (1) C.M. Punk beat IC champion Curtis Axel in a non-title match. Punk controlled the match early. He managed to get the largest pop for an abdominal stretch I've ever heard. Then, Axel took out Punk's knee and went on the offensive. Axel rammed Punk into the barricade. Punk missed a crossbody off the top rope. Punk made a comeback. He hit a high knee in the corner. He went for the Macho Man elbow. Right when he was about to jump, the lights went out and the Wyatts's intro music played. But, no one came out. When the lights came on, Punk was staring at the video board. Axel attacked from behind. He hit the Perfect Plex, but Punk kicked out at two. Punk won a little later with GTS.

After the match, Bray Wyatt's laughter filled the arena. He appeared on the video board, but didn't say anything. He just blew out his lantern. As Punk went up the ramp he threw his gum like Mr Perfect did.

    (2) The Usos & R-Truth pinned 3MB. Loud ovation for Charlotte resident R-Truth. The Usos remained over, wrestling their second match in 30 minutes if you count the Main Event taping. Truth pinned Mahal after the Usos took out Slater and McIntyre with a double dive to the outside.

    (3) Divas champion A.J. Lee & Tamina Snuka beat The Funkadactyls. Cameron and Naomi hit about a quarter of a double dropkick on Tamina. Tamina pulled Naomi out of the ring and clotheslined her to take control. A.J. tagged and had her way with Naomi until Naomi hit an enziguri and got a lukewarm tag to Cameron who got some offense in until missing A.J. in the corner. A.J. tagged in Tamina. Cameron hit a bulldog on Tamina, who eventually powerbombed Cameron. Naomi broke up the pin, but got a big boot from Tamina. A.J. tagged in and applied the Black Widow to Cameron for a submission win.

    - Alberto Del Rio came out for a promo. Typical Del Rio fare - he should still be champion, Cena stole the title from him, people only cheer for Cena because they are stupid, he was sick and hurt for his match at HIAC, and he's going to do lots of bad stuff to Cena when he gets his re-match.

And here comes Cena himself. He tells some unfunny jokes about Del Rio being sick. He talks about the Wahmbulance and he and everyone here are also sick - sick of Del Rio. Del Rio says everything is a joke to Cena and Cena is like a stupid little kid. Del Rio speaks the truth. After some more banter, Cena proposes a championship match tonight. Del Rio agrees. They summon a ref, but get Vickie Guerrero instead. She says no championship re-match tonight. The rematch will take place at Survivor Series because that is best for business. Cena makes fun of Vickie, Del Rio agrees with Cena, and Vickie sets up Cena vs. Ryback for later and Del Rio vs. Khali right now.

    (4) Alberto Del Rio submitted Great Khali. Khali hit a 450 splash for the win. Just kidding. He might have left his feet twice all match. Del Rio went for a double axe handle off the top rope, but Khali got his leg up, but this seemed to hurt Khali more than Del Rio. This actually dragged out about five minutes before Del Rio won with the Cross Arm-breaker.

    (5) Daniel Bryan beat Luke Harper (w/Eric Rowan and Bray Wyatt) via DQ. Bryan's shoulder was still taped. He hit a suicide dive on the outside, then Harper threw him into a barricade and the ring steps. After getting worked over for a while, Bryan made a comeback with some kicks and leg sweeps. Harper hit a powerbomb, but Bryan kicked out at two. Harper turned to Wyatt for guidance. Bryan applied the No! Lock. Rowan ran in to break it up, causing a DQ.

Post-match, Rowan and Harper worked over Bryan. The crowd chanted for Punk. Rowan and Harper held Bryan for Wyatt, who got up on the apron. Punk ran out. He slid into the ring and took out Harper. Bryan dropkicked Rowan. Wyatt remained on the apron for a bit but eventually got down. Punk and Bryan stood tall in the ring while the Wyatts walked back up the ramp.

    (6) John Cena beat Ryback. Big reaction for Cena. North Carolina crowds always seem to be pro-babyface, although some detractors made themselves known later. Ryback is apparently now simply from Las Vegas instead of Sin City. The usual stuff from these two. Ryback tried to submit Cena with a Boston Crab, but Cena powered out. Cena escaped the dreaded bearhug. Cena went for the Five Knuckle Shuffle, but Ryback got up and hit a spinebuster. Ryback went for Shell Shocked, but Cena countered into a DDT. Cena went for the AA, but Ryback countered into what almost looked like a jackhammer. Cena applied the STF, but Ryback made the ropes. Ryback with a spear. Cena out at two. Cena with cross-body off the top rope. He went for the AA, but Ryback grabbed the top rope. Ryback hit a powerslam, but Cena kicked out. Ryback with the Meat Hook, then he went for Shell Shocked again, but Cena reversed into the AA for the pin.

After the match, Del Rio ran down and attacked Cena, who briefly gained the upper hand and Del Rio retreated. I think this is where the taping ends.

Post-taping Dark Match: John Cena beat Alberto Del Rio to retain the World Title. Cena was getting his elbow looked at in the ring when Del Rio came back and attacked him from behind, again working on the elbow. He got on the announce table and cut some sort of promo to set up some sort of match. Del Rio was in control early, but Cena quickly came back with his five moves of doom. He went for the AA, but Del Rio reversed it into the Cross Arm-breaker. Cena powered out and hit the AA for the win to send the crowd home...happy.

After the match, Cena cut a promo playing to the crowd. He then granted a wish to a young boy in the crowd.

Final Thoughts: A better show than I was expecting, since half the roster is on the way to Europe. Not too much filler or recaps other than the Raw Rebound.

Biggest pops: Cena, Bryan, Punk, Usos.

Biggest heat: Del Rio, Vickie, Wyatts.

Luke Harper wrestled on Main Event too (albeit in a tag-team match), so he's had three matches in little over 24 hours. That's Ziggler territory that is :D

Either this week's episode is the most obvious canned crowd reactions or they had the most cooperative fans ever. When the Funkadactyls get a massive cheer and AJ gets booed, you know there's something wrong.
And every time I hear reactions like that, I look at the crowd and they're seemingly doing the cheering without moving or opening their mouths except to talk to people beside them.

The canned noise was like at frequency that was messing with my ears too. It really hurt my enjoyment of the show.

A nothing show really but I will say they have something with the Wyatts/Bryan & Punk feud.

By the sounds of it if 'Bryan vs Harper' was a fruit it was like the difference in real fruit and canned. What you lose in taste you get back in a nice drop of juice at the bottom of the can, helps if its strawberries.

Speaking of editing in sounds, did anyone else hear Jerry Lawlers voice (yes on Smackdown!) right before the Ryback v Cena. It's at the point Ryback is in fullframe after entering the ring and a voice says (ironically!) "Hey you have a career in voiceover work". It sounded like something that was meant to be a reply to whatever JBL had said previously, but it didn't sound like Cole imho.
