24 hour careers?

Hi, my 95 year old grandmother had to have her leg amputated last week due to a clot. As you can imagine looking after her when she comes home(we were told it could be next week!) will be extremely hard
The nurse told my aunt that there is a 24 hours careers payment to the person looking after her and is €500ish which would really help if outside help had to be brought in(all I can find is the normal careers allowance). As she would hate to be in a nursing home we are in the process of getting her home wheelchair accessible and looking into what support is available.
Before she went into hospital she had 2 hours homehelp a day and was getting the old age pension.
Any help or advise about what is available would be great!

Hi. You need to apply for a home care package, this gives a state grant up to a certain amount each month if you need outside help, this is means tested, your gran would also be entitled to state homehelp , social worker in the hospital should advise and help you. Carers allowence is also available, not sure of the amount. Get the social worker on it. They are great at speeding things up and putting help etc in place before your gran comes home. It's all on citizens advice site, max weekly allowence is 239. Good luck and your nan has a speedy recovery.
