Importing car to Ireland

    Hi

I have just returned to Ireland after a very long absence. A friend gave me his old car. It is a Nissan Micra 1995 1 L automatic. It's probably worth only a few hundred euro if even that. It has a current MOT and is in very good condition.

I'm wondering if it is worth while having it taxed and made road legal. Not sure what needs to be done.

I wonder could somebody advise me what form of paperwork I need to have done and how much it might cost.

Also, I don't have any history of driving in Ireland. I haven't owned a car for about six or seven years now. My last car was in the UK in 2008. This means that I don't have a no claims bonus history as well. I'm in my 60s with a clean driving license.

How much do you think I would have to pay for all the legal paperwork and basic insurance for one year.

    Thank you very much.
