Wonder if someone can help/advise - I have to change oil central heating. But the actual burner part of the system is new. Want to know if can get a new boiler but reuse the 'old' burner - do these things match up with each other, do they have to be compatible with each other - is there a way of finding that out?

Generally, yes. You would need to confirm which burner you have, such as an RDB1 or the like, then by checking the manufacturer's instructions, see which of their models suit that burner.
Consideration should be given to the air box & blast tube also.

Better option would be to put in a new boiler & burner complete & either sell your existing burner or keep it for spares.

Thanks for that shane, figured it wouldn't be direct replacement, need to talk to manufacturer. Am getting quoted almost 3k for new boiler+ burner, thats not even for a condensing one .. need to limit the spend as much as can.

It would be crazy to install a standard efficiency boiler. For €3k it must include a LOT of additional works.

A very lot, or a lot of wishful thinking by the installer.

Actaully 1k for boiler burner, 1.5k to install. If wanted more efficiency, would be 3k for boiler/burner. Had a quote for installing gas - 8.5k ... this is french prices ... think will become a heating specialist and move country

What additional works are involved apart from the boiler change??
    Powerflush?
    Heating controls?
    Zoning?
    Cylinder upgrade?
    Extra radiators?
    Extra pipe work ?
