Selling watches - battery life

How does it work with places that sell watches and the batteries therein? I mean if I order a watch from Amazon couldn't it have been sitting there in some warehouse for at least a week or two if not longer. Doesn't this impact on the battery life when the consumer gets it?

The only thing I can think of is that there might be some little bit of plastic separating the battery from the contacts in the watch that is removed when it's being sent out. However some watches I've ordered have been sealed so I'm still in the dark!

I'd love to know....I'm probably being really dozy and the answer will occur to me ten minutes after I post this but I'll stick my neck out all the same.

The answer is the obvious one Im afraid. The battery is installed in the factory and when you a buy a watch you have no idea how long its been sitting on the jeweller's display or the distributor's/online seller's wharehouse, and therefore you have no idea how much of the battery life is left!

If the watch has a two year guarantee, then that should include a new battery if needed in that period.
