What the best deal on a new small car at the moment its for my niece her old car died and she has to have something so, what is the cheapest pcp car finance deal at the moment. I looked at some last year but in the end paid cash for the car I got, but there were some good deal as I remember.

What budget does your niece have in mind?
Any particular car models she likes?

Well I got the seat mii, I don't think she cares as she has to have something the last car was a 12 years old Nissan and she had it for years, she is in college part time and is working so needs something very reliable.

Is the myvi even on sale any more?

Resale has a part to play in pcp so id get a vw up

VW bank pushing pcp at the moment so any of the skoda seat or vw variants of the same car would be on offer.

    http://www.drimnaghmotors.com/ are a perodua dealer.
    Is the up reliable?
For a few hundred more than an up you can get a panda, a splash or a spacestar or an aygo.

Tell her to get another Micra, something 2006 and above.

Weve had one since new and its literally bulletproof. Only issue we had was with one of the door locks and i replaced that. Never ever broken down and believe me it has covered extensive mileage 150K +

If she is in college and working im sure she has better things to be worrying about than paying of new car finance.

Hell of a lot of value in second hand small cars.

All are older designs (panda is more of a facelift)

Projected Resale value is key to low monthly repayments. Resale value of all those cars you listed will fall off the cliff so i cant see the op getting a good monthly payment on them. Thats even if the dealers are bothered giving pcp figures.

toyota have the best resale value of any brand in ireland so they probably wont fall of the cliff

A 3 door aygo in non metallic red with windey windows and no central locking doesn't really hold its money. Thats all youll get for small money

your not getting much more with the up and the aygo is not going to break as often

Ford Fiesta would have been my choice. Reliable, looks great, cheap to service/tax/insure and reasonably priced.

Don't know why anyone would buy anything else in the small car range tbh.

Id be very skeptical about that claim. Maybe it was true once but I don't believe it is true of the newer generation of Toyota's.

If it wasnt true then they would be sued by whoever has the right to that claim.

Id have a vw polo over a Fiesta tbh.

Im not so sure about that. Just look at their best built cars in the world claim. They are basing it on a study done way back in 1990 on manufacturing efficiency rather than actual build quality. Yet they give people the illusion that it's based on the cars build quality.

Even if the 1990 study was on build quality it would be irrelevant today as the Toyotas built today are very different(inferior build quality) from the cars they built back then.

How could Toyota Ireland for example call a 2007+ Auris/corolla "the best built cars in the world" is beyond me. Even the yaris from that time was poor compared to previous efforts.

That's why im skeptical about their claims. They are misleading imo in their "best built cars in the world" claim, so what's stopping them from being misleading in other claims.

Fiesta is cheaper, looks and drives better, cheaper to service and i've heard quite a few people say VWs build quality has declined in recent years.

I agree with you about new Toyota's though. Lot of "cost cutting" going on there.

The Fiesta does indeed handle better, it's sharper, it has more dynamic handling. Servicing might be cheaper but I can't imagine it being that much cheaper tbh.

The reason id have the polo over one is because it feels a nicer place to be in my experience. The interior feels more upmarket and the car as a whole feels more of a quality product to me.

Yes Vw's build quality did slip, but Imo that occurred from the late 1990s to the mid 00s. The cars they are manufacturing in the last 4-5 years are quality products Imo.

Not been in a newer one so I will defer to your opinion. :P

Either car would be an excellent choice for the OP i'd imagine.

I had a test drive of a citigo.

    I was pretty impressed.

I think they & their Seat Mii / VW up! cousins.

What about the Fiat 500? Resale value on them is strong because of the niche market they are in.

Depends on the model and year tbh.
Some models of fiesta (especially older ones)would be much better than the equivalent polo imo

Agreed. The op wants a new car though

I don't get the impression that the OP's niece cares about the car, she just wants a new car on good finance terms.

I had a Dawoe matiz from new before the car I have now, I don't know if it was just me but the car had 180k on the clock when I traded it in, it never gave me a moments trouble. I stuck to the service schedule and had the timing belt replaced at the correct time thats all it ever needed.

I love the seat mii I got the top one, it is the most economical car I have ever has and my husband who is use to driving big cars say it drive like a bigger car.

You're comparing a 2005 model with a 2011 model, 4 star old ncap rating vs a 5 star new ncap rating, no curtain airbags or even side airbags on the aygo, no stability control or hill hold, up has electric windows and city brake function, phone interface and is just a more refined and fashionable car.

The new Renault Clio is tasty for a super mini, not sure about future residuals though.

You'd forgive residuals on the Clio (my favourite supermini I reckon) I'd they were cheap, but they're €15k starting off...
If I'm buying a small a Renault then a Dacia Sandero with a 0.9 tCe engine would be a hoot but not as charismatic as the Clio.

On a sidenote you can get a Grand Scenic 1.2 now.....
