will laying down wood chippings over grass kill it

    am preparing a shrub bed and want to get rid of the grass that would otherwise grow inbetween them

    If you are talking about lawn grasses, then probably it would. If it is wild grass with scutch then I suggest you dig and spray to get rid of it first as it is capable of growing through anything!

    Lay down weed suppressing membrane and then put on your chippings. You can then cut Xs in the material and plant through them.

    Or you can use vinegar mixed with washing up liquid to spray on the grass and kill it.
