Fostering help

    Hi

My 13 year old nephew lives with us since my sister died two years ago. His dad was never involved and he lives abroad since before he was born. We are interested in fostering him and I'm wondering what's involved. We are both late 30's and have a son 4 years younger. He will be with us long term. Our financial situation wouldn't be great but both kids are provided for very well. He currently has no legal Guardian

    Any help appreciated

Have you got custody or guardianship of him currently?

Hi Thanks for reply. No we don't. Not officially anyway. But he lives with us. As far as I'm aware one would have to apply through the court to become a guardian. We are pretty sure my parents haven't done this either. All we officially know is that my mother (his granny) still collects his children's allowance and also gets a monthly carers allowance....... Not easy to give up.

ah and as you know you look after him so you should be entitled to it.
Does he have a social worker?
If so they would know exactly how to go about it.
He needs a legal guardian appointed for things as simple as school permission slips.
I would contact http://www.ifca.ie/ and they would also know what to do next.
    Good Luck.
