When to buy second hand

If I am going to buy a 2009 or 2010 car in the next few months. Am I better off to hang on for the new year? Thinking of importing a BMW 520, with a new year, but also a new model out now, would I reasonably expect prices to drop quite a bit, presumably with trade ins expected plus a year older etc. Or maybe I am deluding myself? Any thoughts on timing much appreciated.

14 reg is out in March, 64 reg out in September. Weird, I know! The same principle as our new plates here.
