Me mate got made redundant on Friday, so I said I'd give her a hand looking through t'internet for a new job. She's a receptionist.

Went onto IrishJobs.ie. Found a job that might be perfect. (Fingers crossed)

What struck me though, were the five jobs listed in the "similar jobs" side-banner.

    In order;

    1) Head of Operations

    2) Insurance Broker

    3) Customer Care Specialist - German

    4) Technology Transfer Para-Legal Officer

    5) Renewables Business Development Executive

What do Google know about me mate that I don't?!

Just gutted that Master-Brewer wasn't suggested! :pac:

    Choco

So there's more to that job than them fixing their hair and redirecting phone calls. Who'd of thunk it?

    ...... She's a receptionist...

If she has a decent chassis then she'll have no problems getting a job.

Lol. No idea. Me mate has been in charge of front of office reception for a major Irish concern for the last six years and still describes her position as receptionist. ;)

If it was an actual advertisement it could have just picked up she might have looked at stuff in an insurance company?
Or if it was part of the website itself... well, welcome to "jobs" for Ireland. They suggest you do things you aren't qualifiedfor

I don't know why people have such disdain for Call Centre jobs. You can learn a lot in the role, including technical skills, customer service skills, effective problem determination, time management etc. To be good at it requires a good deal of skill and knowledge.

It would probably be something to do with one of these or a combination of them.
Poor pay for the work done (generally. I know commission is around in some places)... Very little respect from management with very little career prospects (promotion wise).... It can be extremely repetitive and in turn very boring... You may be forced to speak to really nasty unpleasant people (although doesn't happen too often anymore I hope)

While I learned loads of valuable things in the call centre I worked in for nearly 6 years it (unless it's sales based with hourly rate and commission) hardly paid the bills.

I went for an interview and entrance exam to get on the course I applied for recently and had to have previous admin qualification to gain entry, I gave them my cv and when asked about my experience I gave four examples of employment I had done in the area specifically (about five years worth) and was told it wasn't really enough. (data entry and logistics) I wouldn't mind but the course co ordinator worked in the same company as I did about 15 years ago so she knew the content of the work I did. She then advised me to take the ECDL at the same time as I'm doing this just so I'll have it on record. wtf
At the same time I applied for Christmas work in a large retail store and one of the interview questions was to give an example of a presentation I had to give previously. The job was as a retail assistant. I left wondering what they wanted me to give presentations in.

I don't have a degree in IT and am working a very technical IT role spearheading some complex projects.

A degree doesn't entitle you to anything

OP you wont be laughing when your friend will be head of ESB or Irish water, even though she was no qualifications. If she impresses the right TDs she has the job.

I never said it did. You might want to read the rest of the thread for context of what I was saying. You know, that or **** off with your own little issues.

You should get proof for a claim like this instead of believing comments on TheJournal.ie.
