I’ve a problem when cycling in cold weather where my feet get really cold, sometimes only a half hour or so into a cycle.

    I have these overshoes http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/endura-road-overshoe/rp-prod91160

I wear two pairs of socks (one thin pair and one ‘normal’ pair)
Is there anything else I can do to keep my feet warm? Any kind of thermal socks that someone could recommend?

    Your shoes too tight?

wear two pairs of over shoes,

    these: (under your current pair)

Believe it or not the usual cause of cold feet is having your shoes too tight which cuts off blood circulation, try a looser set up which might mean ditching a pair of socks.

Thanks lads. I'll give that a go. Makes sense now that I think about it.

Was just going to say exactly this.

Make sure your core is good and warm. Otherwise your body restricts blood flow to the extremities.

I suffer from really cold feet also, what I do sometimes if the weather is very cold or wet is to wrap a layer of cling film over the first sock and cover it with the second one. This works pretty well.

I have these overshoes which have a thin lining of fleece inside, my feet are always toasty in these.

Above overshoes with a pair of these defeet socks and you'll think you're cycling in the bahamas.

Did you tape over the ventilation holes on the sole with duck tape?

I had this problem a while ago, and kept layering up with more pairs of socks and thicker overshoes, to no effect. What I realised was that my feet were sweating and about 30-45 mins into a cycle, the sweat was getting cold, sometimes causing terribly numb feet. I now cycle with only a thin pair of socks and windproof overshoes, and considerably warmer feet. Perhaps this is actually due to increased blood flow as mentioned above, but thought I'd post my experiences anyway.

What are you wearing on your legs
and upper body? Cold core= colder extrities.

Different sport I know, but when kayaking in winter I'd wear multiple fleeces under my dry suit. Even though I never wore gloves my hands never really got that cold.

Thanks for all the replies. Upper body is warm alright. Im going to try the single pair of socks first and go from there.

you sir are a genius (or I am a bit stupid!)

sorry for the hijack but I have this issue too and really struggle with numb and cold toes. Been adding layer after layer and nothing helps. This weekend tried wearing shoes much looser and just a very thin pair of socks and problem solved.

    Thank you!

Rapha winter socks are amazing, only need to wear overshoes if it's wet.
