Engagement Ring/ Present for him!

    Hi all,

Just a quick question from a complete novice at this game! My OH and I have decided to get engaged in the next few months - I want to pick out ring- very choosy about this and he wants to surprise me with a proposal so that's why we're being vague about the next few months so that we get time to do our research before spending the money and the idea of a wedding being unleashed on our families! However looking around at rings I think what I like is more than I want him to spend! Just wondering about peoples experience of buying second hand/antique rings? I love the idea and it makes a lot of financial sense but am just wondering about the logistics of it? For example if you are buying off a private seller is there any way to get the paperwork checked out or is it just a case of buyer beware?

Also, wondering if ppl still buy gifts for their OH when they propose and if so, what? A holiday, a watch?

    Thanks in advance!

Congratulations! I think its a nice idea to get a present for your OH - they way i see it is they go to so much effort to surprise you and even though they know your answer - its still a big thing to do! I am a bit of a softie though so maybe thats why i will buy something.

We are only engaged a couple of weeks but we are going shopping to buy him a gift and he can pick whatever he wants - as its christmas i am combining the too so he can get what he likes! Not to the same value as the ring but a fraction of the cost unless its a timeless piece! He is so excited about it and can't decide what he wants which is funny and its good fun!

Buy what you can afford but i would get something nice, its about the men too!

Try Voltaire Diamonds if you have an idea in mind - they are simply brilliant.

    Hope you get something nice.

I knew I wanted an antique.old style ring from the beginning as I am not a huge fan of new diamonds. My boyfriend picked out an amazing antique ring in Delphi antiques in Powerscourt in Dublin which was stunning. Their website shows some of the things they have there www.delphiantiques.com.

Regarding a present for him, this is something I really wanted to do as he put so much thought and effort into the ring. I got him a good citizen watch which I got engraved with the date we got engaged. He never wore a watch before but now he loves it and it is a nice reminder of the engagement.

Thanks for the posts guys! Hadn't heard of Delphi antiques Kathy but it looks bang on the mark what I am looking for! Do you know price wise what they retail at or is there something for every budget?

I know, it's hard to decide! I think I will go for the watch too as it seems to be the timeless classic! Thanks again guys!:)
