Just wondering what otc medication/supplements people have found useful for anxiety of mild depression, either here or in the north. I know you can get 5-htp and St Johns Wort in the north but not here for whatever reason. I've read phenibut can be helpful, is it possible to get that in Ireland?

    Thanks

The best prediction is exercise and good nutrition.

phenibut is not something to be taken lightly be sure to do a lot of research before taking.

Glycine has a quick calming effect if taken sublingly others with a calming effect are taurine and magnesium.

Some good studies out there on the positive effect niacin and magnesium has on depression.

Thanks, I try to go for a run at least twice a week. It's more the anxiety I'm concerned about, I think I have something of a handle on when I feel myself slipping into a depressive state. But when I'm faced with something unexpected or stressful like an interview, I just seem to freeze up, have trouble speaking and thinking coherently and my voice becomes less clear.

Sorry to here that, might be worth looking up a good CBT practitioner and trying a mindfulness course. Both have proven results for anxiety.

There are some good podcasts on CBT,mindfulness and meditation out there that might help get you started.

Personally I'm a big believer in the benefits of talking through stuff, exercise, sleep and nutrition.

Any time I used to eat sugary and wheat based processed foods it dragged me way down.

    Cheers

Seriously? Are you looking for the equivalent of a panadol for a headache for your 'mild anxiety'?

Medications don't appear to work well in mild depression or anxiety.

Proper CBT is the way to go if you can find it.

To be honest I am routinely amazed how much pseudo-medical advice is given on this forum.

Stuff like 5-htp and St Johns Wort have been shown to be more effective than placebo, so they can have some effect. Aren't over the counter here, but can be bought in shops in the north.
