Software Development in London

I'm guessing there must be a few people on here who've done something similar to what I'm thinking of.

Graduated from a Computer Science course three years ago and eventually started my career in software development aged 25. I've three years experience now working as a .net developer in Dublin, 18 months of those working with Microsoft Biztalk. I'm starting to get itchy feet and have always planned on spending some time in London at some stage. I'm 28 now so it's probably do or die time. How have people gone about looking for jobs in London city? I wouldn't plan on staying there long unless things worked out for me. A 12 month contract would be fine, maybe even less. I don't have any Microsoft qualifications but I am very good at my job and have worked for a large internationally known company so my experience should be recognised. Said company has a London office but I think I'd rather just try my hand at something different rather than transfer over.

I've previously had friends living there and I'd jump at the chance to just quit and move over if I had a starting point like that, but a lot have since moved on or got married. So I'd prefer a job lined up before I make the move if I'm going to do it. Is that wishful thinking? Was about salary? I know London is a ridiculously expensive place to live, any idea of what kind of salary I should be looking at? With three years experience could I get a contract with a daily rate? I have some experience in a relatively niche area used within insurance (an industry I worked in), banking and retail. I've seen daily rates offered for roles in London that sound very similar to work I was previously doing. I'm not 100% sure I'd want to go down this route though.

Put your CV up on Monster.co.uk, remove your phone number and just leave your email. Otherwise your phone will ring none stop for 2 days about jobs you aren't interested in.

Do up your Linkedin profile as you would be surprised how many emails you get about jobs and its a good place to look for jobs too.

A few guys from my only company moved to London who had 2-3 years experience and got a salaries of £40-60k the higher end ones were with Investment Banks in niche areas and the guy on 60k is working mental hours while one guy who is on 48k has a 9-5 job.
