Please don't gang up here but I read/heard that 2 missiles were launched at Syria and never hit their targets. Again rumour was that they were launched from Spain and either shot down by Russian vessels in the Med or jammed and rendered impotent during their trajectory.

Does anyone have any other information?

This would have been a few weeks ago...just read about it recently.

From what I can dig up, the reports that Spain launched missiles occured on Sept 3rd.
Reportedly, on 3 September 2013, Russia shot down two US ballistic missiles that were heading towards the Syrian coast, allegedly 'in the direction of Damascus'.

"The trajectory of these objects goes from the central part of the Mediterranean Sea toward the eastern part of the Mediterranean coast," Interfax news agency quoted a Russian spokesman as saying.

Then there is this video from RT stating it was an Israeli/American drill/ test.

Apparently the US has 2 military bases in Spain.
